I think if you live within the neighboring counties of a storm where a tornado COULD form you get the warning.

I remember when I was a kid that was called a "Tornado Watch" and you only got "Tornado Warning" when a Tornado was no shit forming and setting down.

Yes, in the olden days, one had to have been spotted for it to be a warning. Nowadays, they'll call a warning if there is something on the radar that meets certain criteria that is likely to be a tornado.

Same here. We moved to Cincinnati when I was in the 7th grade. I remember my sister and I sitting on the front steps when the tornado sirens when off. We had no idea what was going on until neighbors were running into their homes and someone screamed as us to get in our basement.

I've been in many storms. Right out of college I was working in the Circuit City headquarters in Richmond when a twister took off the roof and it was raining on my computer.

I don't want to jinx anything but I love storms. The best ones were when we lived in Lousiana, on the top of a hill overlooking the bayou. Some of those storms coming in over the bayou were stunning.

I love a good storm as well. When I was a low-teen living in SE CT and Hurricane Belle (it was a mild one by today's standards) blew through, I thought it was the coolest thing ever.

There are some good storms you can watch for sure, especially if they have a nice cool breeze.

Charlie however, seems to pick the hurricane types to tell me he needs to go out only to just stand in the rain and not go pee while looking at me with sad puppy eyes....
