This 2018 Sahara was a new arrival. Large aftermarket tail lights, LEDs to replace the bumper reflectors, Hooker dual outlet exhaust...

A good gravel road leads to the top of the mountain, but if you then want to drive to the lake (which we did) you really need a 4WD vehicle.

Accidentally got my first taste of rock crawling (during my 4th of July trip).

My husband and I planned a hike to a small lake in Tahoe National Forest. When we got to the trailhead we discovered that the trail was actually a rocky path we could drive on. I decided to drive it but quickly realized that that wasn't regular gravel road driving I was used to, but more like rock crawling which I'd never done before.

It was getting close to sunset, and the difficulty of the road ahead was unknown to us, and there wasn't anybody around, so my very reasonable husband persuaded me to give up the idea of driving and proceed on foot as we'd planned.

I ended up driving a short distance, but enough to get the sense of what rock crawling was about. It's like a series of puzzles you need to quickly solve to get you from point A to point B, preferably without damaging your vehicle. And if you solve them wrong, you pay. Love it! :)

The road up close looked more intimidating in places than in this photo:

After we walked this road on foot we found out that we could've (carefully) driven it. Oh well, maybe next time.

And the lake was beautiful, by the way:

This is how we learn. Baby steps. Well done, in my opinion.

I got home from North Carolina late Tuesday, driving a dealer loaner JLU Sahara, turned it in Wednesday afternoon, picked up my JLUR, with about $6000 worth of warranty work completed. Sounds big, but they fixed the bubbles in the paint around the door hinges and I had them install the new steering gear box.

Now I am getting ready to hook up the camper today and head to the great north of Michigan to Jeep and camp with 7 friends.

Go time is less than an hour. Might have to get off JLwranglerforums.........
What do you think of the new steering box?

It is the Grand Cherokee L (new model), the 2022 Grand Cherokee is supposed to receive the same redesign.

I was referring to the red Sahara.

Hoesntly, my JLUR drove great without the upgraded box. I have a great relationship with my dealer and thought to myself, hey you have 50,000+ miles on your Jeep with 37 in tires and Jeep will upgrade the steering box for free. So I had them swap it in. It has made no real difference to the way my Jeep drives. My Jeep as always drove great.

I agree with you. The upgrade has helped many people but I didn't see any noticeable change either. But hey, can say no to free Jeep parts.
