So I‘m spending my lazy Sunday just looking over my local Jeep dealer’s website and I find this used 2020 Rubicon Unlimited with 23505 miles on it. The asking price is $54694.

Here it is: https://www.prestigechryslerdodge.c...ubicon-4wd-4d-sport-utility-1c4hjxfn1lw261716

It seems rather high so I took the VIN and looked up the sticker. It was only $47970. HOLY MOLEY we’re looking at markup of $6724 FOR A USED RUBICON! 😲😲😲

It is happening all over. I was talking with my wife about selling our 2018 JLUR and putting in an order, but she didn't bite.

Funny you say that because I've been considering selling mine too. KBB shows $42K - $47K for mine. I didn't even pay that for it (although the sticker was $49K)
Meaning I could sell my Jeep after 3 years of driving it and make money instead of losing money. If I can find a buyer, and a new vehicle that has everything I want I may well do it.

The used car market is inflated. I kept my 2009 WRX daily driver when I bought the JLURD. Late last year I looked at selling it to CarMax because I wasn't driving it. They quoted $2,000 so I kept it. I got another quote from them last month at $5,400 and sold it.

$5,400 for a 12 year old WRX with 160K miles, CEL, weak A/C, squeaky trans, broken passenger mirror, and a quart a month addiction to oil. Crazy.

Edit: should have been 2009.

I sold mine. I had a 2019 JLR. Owned it over 2 years and 21K miles. I sold it for $1800 MORE than I originally paid for it brand new.

it’s not a bad idea. Sold mine to Vroom for more than I paid, and it’s now listed on their website for more than it’s MSRP!

while the base price of new wranglers has gone up over time, seems a smart idea if you can sell what you have for more than you paid, and get a new one with new warranty for 7-8% below invoice still

It's not just Jeeps. I sold my wife's 2018 Camaro for $7K less than what we paid and it had 23K miles on it. A Camaro with that little depreciation? Either way, I sold it and I'm using the money to order my wife a Wrangler.

Yes, the used market is on fire. We just sold our Sahara to Vroom for almost $4k over what we paid. Just ordered a new Wrangler (Gecko!) at 8% under invoice. Almost no reason not to do it - we'll miss the Bikini color but for basically driving the Jeep for free for a year, totally worth it to us to swap to another color.

Damn! Maybe I should consider selling mine as I can use my Civic for a year and then buy me a JLURD in 2022!!!

Vroom offered me over $18k for my 2010 Unlikited Sport. I paid $26k I think. Not bad for a 12 year old Jeep. I will hang onto it until my recently ordered 4xe Rubicon is ready.

Shop around a bit. Take that offer to other dealerships. Vroom is good but the dealerships are desperate for cars right now. Vroom offered us $23,500 for our 2014 2Door Rubicon. Went to a dealership and they gave us 26k without haggling. Always good to have a solid offer in your back pocket though.

There is a whole contingent of people that ONLY shop used and refuse to shop new.

They simply do not realize how ridiculous the price of used cars are right now.

But this has been true for a few years, now. When my wife and I went car shopping for her, we got a brand new 2018 Audi A4 for about $4,500 cheaper than the same exact used 2017 A4 (other than color) with 15,000 miles. And this was a few years ago, obviously. The insanity has only gotten worse.

Yep. Yesterday I bought a 2019 2D Rubicon with 3.9k miles on it. Was driven for 7 months in North Carolina before being repossessed. Got it all checked out, independent mechanic, Carfax etc. No previous incidents or problems. Basically brand new. Has the Y07 recall on it, but understand the update is coming soon. KBB is 39-42k, I paid 45k at CarMax. I figure it was actually a good deal, considering how difficult it is to find a 2D around here, but I'd be interested to know what others think. I'm new to Jeeps, this is my first, and I'm psyched!

Recently sold a 2015 4runner limited, we drove the car for 4 years and got back almost what we paid for it. Did KBB instant cash offer, which offered more than carvana. Dealer turned around, put on lot the very next day for more than I originally paid for it and sold.

Ihad an offer for my 2020 JLUR 12k+ what I paid for it.

It's all vehicles in good condition.
