Was a good dude and clearly had much more sand experience then me. LOL

Nah, it was fun. Good experience.

Next day we (wife and I) went to Drummond Island and had to use the winch 6 times in a 200 yard stretch.
Nobody anywhere near us there and no phone service. Was lucky winch didn't die or have mechanical failure on Jeep.

Last July when I went, had to air down to 12 b4 I got good traction on these dunes. Running 35x12.5 Toyo RTs.

Lose momentum in the wrong spot and it happens. Glad you got out without too many problems. I've definitely seen a lot of good people up there helping others.

I often air down to 6 psi. Even when I didn't run bead lock wheels, I would still air down to 8 or 10 psi.

That looks fun, nothing like that that Im aware of in SFL. (ok beaches, Daytona etc, but not really the same)

Lower your tire pressure even more, at least down to 9, put it in 4HI and turn traction control off and keep the RPMs high and you will have a great time. Also momentum is your friend, if you have an auto tranny bump it over into manual mode so you can control the shift points and keep the RPMs up. I used to fear the sand here at Sand Hollow and now I love it. I've got side by sides looking at me like I'm nuts. Ripping sand roads at 45mph is a blast!!!

I tell people all the time that the best sunsets east of the Mississippi River are at Key West FL. Orange Beach Alabama and from the top of a sand dune at Silver Lake Sand Dunes.


If you do go to the dunes, make sure you stay for the sunset..

That's interesting and makes a heck of a lot of sense to run your whip flag on the front bumper because you will see it as you come up and crest a dune. Around here everyone runs them in the back.
