Tailgate vents

Hey guys, what exactly is the purpose of the tailgate vents? The only thing I can think of is less wind resistance with the top off. Do you know the actual reason? I have my rear seats out and the interior tailgate panel off, and notice that my subs push them open when they hit. It also causes a rattle.

Agreed. I am now trying to come up with a design to modify or get rid of them.

Maybe I’m to deaf but I never hear any rattles from the vent.

Agree with the air pressure build up. Since installing a Slipstream I've noticed the difference.

Mine rattle going over bumps and any time I have the windows down you can hear them flap in the wind.

So a little redneck engineering here, ugly but it works. Cheap scotch Brite slit and slid in under the vent flaps. They function, but land quietly now. Rubber would've been ideal, but I didn't have any laying around unfortunately.
