I don't see any recent topics on this.
What are you recent buyers planning on or have done as far as warranties?
Thanks.

I've bought the Mopar lifetime MaxCare with a $100 ded. for our two previous Jeeps. The lifetime is no longer offered but I plan to get a Mopar MaxCare for our 2020 Recon. Since it now has over 12k miles the price on these plans increase quite a bit.

I read an interesting idea on another forum where the person said he treats an extended warranty like catastrophic healthcare insurance and so he bought a plan with a large $500 ded. to protect him financially if something major breaks. I'm going to look more into that.

Anyway, there are lots of threads on here about extended warranties and many opinions about whether or not to get one. One common theme is to not get an aftermarket warranty. If you do end up buying one get the Mopar plan.

The price at the dealer is usually WAY higher than what you can buy the exact same plan for online or from a handful of popular sellers mentioned on the forums. Tom Winkels is one of those low price sellers. He saved me $1,500 off the cost of my lifetime plan vs what my local dealer wanted for the same thing.

I’m looking to get the MaxCare plan as well. I didn’t know the price increases with mileage on the vehicle. I thought it would be priced the same as long as you buy the plan prior the factory warranty expiring . I have 25k so I’m fast approaching the 3/36.

I’m trying to decide between the Max Care and the Added Care Plus. I’m at 17k miles after 10 months of ownership so I drive a lot. I know I’m going with the 7-year unlimited mileage option but can’t decide if I need the Max Care or not...

The price difference between these two is significant - about $1,100 for a $200-deductible and $1,300 difference for a $100-deductible.

I went to jeepfactorywarranty.com and was quoted 7 Year 100K Maxcare with $200 deductible for $1,600. Anyone getting better pricing than that?

How do modifications like bigger tires/lift/bumpers affect the extended warranty? Should you skip purchasing one if you plan to make mods like this?

Short answer, it depends ;) I was just talking to my dealer about this last night. My MOPAR lift and 35's will be installed by them so no question they will cover repairs without blaming the lift and tires. We are getting proximity locks, heated seats and heated steering. If any of those fail it would be hard to blame the lift, bumpers or tire carrier. My dealer already gives me a 100K powertrain warranty BUT the Maxcare will cover electronics / computers which can be some of the most expensive fixes. I'm still mulling it over BUT I have had extended warranties pay for themselves every time I bought them. Also, if you sell private sale it's transferable (and a nice selling point), if you trade you will get a pro-rated refund.

I paid $2400 for a Maxcare 7-year/unlimited miles warranty. I’m sitting at 18k miles in my first 10 months of driving so I’m going to rack them up and need to be covered. I’ve already had way too many issues so far...

Any vehicle is a crapshoot. Prior to owning my Wrangler, I had a Pontiac G8 GT for over 12 years and almost 200,000 miles and literally had no issues with it whatsoever.

my wrangler has had corking door issues at about 2000 miles that required the door catch to be replaced and most recently has had all kinds of suspension and steering issues. I had death wobble at just over 16,000 miles and they tried a number of different fixes before finally getting it figured out (track bar and steering gearbox was the fix). But after replacing the steering gearbox, the dealership who did the repair did a shotty job so it is back at a new dealer waiting on a new steering gearbox and intermediate shaft. I’ve had a loaner vehicle now for over a week and I’m being told it will be another five days until the parts arrive. Needless to say I’m not real pleased.
All that being said I absolutely love my wrangler. It is the most fun vehicle I’ve ever had and plan to keep it a long time.

I’ve soured on warranties after going through engines and transmission that wouldn’t get covered on a stock vehicle even within the original factory warranty. They’re like consumer protection laws, they make me feel good but at the end of the day bury me in red tape until it isn’t worth my time. I had my focus only make it 500 miles before the clutches went again and ford refused to honor the warranty. That was the third set. I also offloaded a subaru with engine problems at 30k that multiple dealers refused to fix. It blew 2 months after I sold it.
My new perspective is to wait for it to fail, then replace it with better. Worked great for me in high school. If I accept it up front, it should be much easier to stomach.

Here's the thing about "extended warranties". They aren't warranties. They are repair plans. Basically, you are prepaying for any repairs needed.

The main difference is that a warranty is the manufacturer's way of saying, "We promise this is a good car. We're so confident that it's good, that we'll repair anything for free for 3 years. So, please buy our car!" They are selling you a car, and the warranty is little more than marketing.

A repair plan is something offered by a for-profit business. You give them $1500, and they are betting that you will only ask for $1200. They pocket the extra $300. It is EXACTLY the same as the house advantage that casinos have.

So, if you enjoy going into a casino and betting that you can beat the odds, then you'll LOVE repair plans. Of course, the main difference is . . . at a casino, if you beat the odds, you win cash . . . with a repair plan, if you beat the odds, you've damaged your car pretty severely.

TLDR - repair plans are not worth it most of the time. Otherwise, the companies would go bankrupt.

I guess you see many vehicles stranded on the road with major transmission and engine failures in your area. Lots of bad luck around those parts.
