About 35 years ago, my uncle towed his full size Bronco (or was it a Blazer) all the way from Montana to Wisconsin. He let his two dogs, a GSD and Retriever, ride in the towed vehicle. Upon arrival in WI he realized that he needed a new transfer case. Dogs must have bumped the lever sometime between stops and put it into gear at highway speeds.

(And no- no dogs were harmed)

What was the sequence of events here? The transmission exploded and took a chunk of the engine with it? Or vice-versa?

That video is pretty awesome.

I’m coming up with 56.5krpm at the engine at 70 mph for stock rubicon. Very impressive.

Maybe I missed something? 33 tire is 630 revs per mile = 735 rpm x 77 crawl ratio?

That carnage probably happened within a minute or two, no way did that engine see 56k RPM before it blew.
I bet everything came apart before it even had a chance to get hot.

Lol! That was my first thought too! What were the engine RPMs? Of course a rubicon has 1:84.2 tow ratio when in 1st and 4L. Yep around 45k to 50k rpm sounds juuuust right!

I would guess the crank broke and took out the block, flywheel, clutch and transmission case with it. I bet none of those parts are balance at 50,000rpm. It must have been quite the sight when it blew.

Why wouldn’t insurance cover it? They cover damage when one is stupid enough to hit a vehicle directly in front of them.
Something to do with one should not be driving a Mercedes SUV though a 12 inch deep river.

That being Florida: they probably just retired, bought an RV and a $60,000 JL to tour the country, and their plan blew up —literally— before even crossing the state line.

I’d like to have seen the debris pile that fiasco left behind.
I believe, although I could be wrong, but I believe at that point it's called shrapnel ... LOL
