Nice day here in Hampton roads and finally got around to a project that I’ve been putting off all winter. I had to take the metal skid plate off when I installed my front receiver hitch. I’ve never liked the look with it off, but had to do some minor surgery to make it fit with the hitch.

Some Minor Surgery:

After:

Much cleaner now, but mainly cosmetic as I haven’t yet figured out how to bolt up the back side of the skid. That’s a project for another day.
Great mod. I use my front hitch a lot with a cargo rack for luggage on family trips, cooler/firewood for camping. For everyday use it’s better than roof rack as keeps everything at ground level for easy loading/access. I left my skid off, but I have the cheap plastic one which is useless anyway.

In preparation for a 3.5” lift and 37” tires I got the Rugged Ridge Spartacus HD Tire Carrier. IMO the hardest part is the tear down of everything to get the hinge installed. The installation itself it pretty straightforward, as is the tire carrier itself. Downsides include the mounting of the 3rd brake light. This requires you to carry an extra allen wrench. IMO they would have done better to offer a torx bolt that could make use of the Jeep‘s included tools. Also, this mount leaves the wires more exposed and it just doesn’t look that great IMO. At some point I’ll probably get a LED donut light like I had on my old Jeep. All in all, not bad for the $426 I got it for off Amazon.

Looks good. I've had my eye on the spartacus. Nice work. Noted on the third brake light, wonder if a bolt could be swapped.

I’m sure it can be, I just haven’t had a chance to look yet.

Joe is that the bag with windows in it on the wall? I didn’t put mine on yet so not familiar with all parts.
Can you give me some other pics on how it’s hung? I can’t tell.
Is it pretty stable? Wont slip? My other truck would be parked under it.
The way I store it, it is really stable. I can’t get you more pictures yet. It is actually holding my hard top now. 😊

Here is a picture of the other parts though.

Just installed mine. Got the adjustable version, but ended up using the .75 and the .25 for the full inch. Read the directions and looked at your photos a few times, which made the install easy. Definitely a more comfortable seating position now. Very happy with this product so far.

I already had the Mopar hinge gate reinforcement when I bought the Jeep. I replaced the stock carrier with the Teraflex Alpha HD carrier which I really like. Allowed me to locate the tire up and suck it back closer to the lift gate right against the bump stops.
Just installed mine today- on my 21 JLUR the camera on the stock carrier is held on with a plastic clip vs. the tiny screws the instructions talk about. Yours have the screws?
