A jeep going 70mph is not going to average 26+ MPG unless it’s being towed.
Actually, our EcoDiesels can average 26+ mpg WHILE towing something.

I wouldn’t believe the trip computer. Only way to know is to calculate at the MPG at the fuel pump. In my experience, trip computers are way off.

I checked at the pump today. Figured out to a little over 28 MPG.
That figure really surprised me. I did think that 26 MPG was somewhat optimistic.

My 2.0 has only gotten a best average of about 21 mpg. My normal average is between 18 and 19 mpg. But, I do have a 3" lift and 37" mud tires. 😁

I’ve been averaging 16-17 mpg on my JLUR (3.6L, manual transmission) - I probably don’t drive the greatest from a fuel economy point of view (or any point of view for that matter), but with the Wrangler’s brick-ish aerodynamics, I never expected 25mpg or more.
I daily mine and mostly drive between 35-60 mph as I don’t get on the highway too much, but in a day and age where there are full size pickups getting 25-27mpg (the v6 f150 come to mind), as someone in a previous fuel consumption thread hilariously put it, the Jeep’s fuel economy is sort of “pants”.

Summer day trip running state highways 55 mph over about 140 miles using cruise averaged 29 mpg on my 2dr sport 3.6 auto with stock all season tires. So they can do pretty good. Switched to slightly bigger K02 tires now so will be interesting to see what it can do. I average 20-22 with my normal intown with some very short highway driving. Definitely does a lot better after warming up so short cold winter day drives kill my average.

Highway driving with my JLU Sport and calculating the mileage the hard way by writing down the odometer reading and keeping track of how many gallons I buy, I can get 20-22 depending on conditions. My JLU is stock V6 8spd except for Rubicon KO2 takeoffs. Driving Dallas to Denver there are a lot of varied conditions- some uphill, some high altitude, usually headwind somewhere. I think I got about 10% better with the original Kevlar tires.

No way my 2020 with a 3.6l and 37's is gonna touch that. Lucky to get 13 mpg without any off-roading.
Ouch.....my last hand calc on 37’s and 4.88’s with 400lb load and 2 additional passengers was 20.6. Display was 19.6.

I'll have to watch your videos to see what you did to improve mpg.
short version: keep it 70mph or less, tune it, add an intake and exhaust if you can tolerate the noise. The airbox IS a restriction, especially tuned.

That dash display of mpg is known far and wide as a lie-o-meter. Rarely is it ever correct - most time it reads higher than what the vehicle's mpg actually is.
I hope not! My brand new Rubicon is only showing 16 mpg after about 600 miles, with half being highway.

17 on the highway and 15 city according to trip computer and the highway mileage independently validated using Google maps.

will achieve 22 mpg on flat highway in 8th gear but even the slightest bit of uphill/downhill and it drops to 17 mpg.

2021 2.0L Turbo. First 300 miles showed up on the ODO so I was curious and filled it up. 19.717 mpg on 87 octane. I know that's not the best I could have done but...hey...it's a Turbo so I've just been breaking it in. ;)

Just remember, it could always be worse.

Traded in a 2017 Camaro SS for the JLUD. Over ~40k miles (life of the car while I had it), I averaged a whopping 11 mpg.

Of course, that's better than my G8GT after I modded it (cam, heads, etc.). It would get 9.3.
