I had the new steel steering box installed on my 2019 JLU. I thought it was starting to feel looser, in the steering, that was confirmed when my wife drove my Jeep.
She said it was all over the road, I don't know if something could have come loose?
Could the new steering box be defective?

It was probably not installed and set up properly. Do you have a lift on your Jeep?

I'd go back to the dealer and confirm they did the computer update. I had mine done last week and it drives like a new vehicle. Wander gone. Drives with one hand. Your dealer missed something if it's worse.

there's a wide variety of reports on the new box, for some it's perfect and for others it's worse. make sure all the bolts are tightened to spec and your fluid level is where it should be. cycle the steering left and right full lock a few times and check the fluid again.

No, it's stock, which makes it more of a concern, because this is no help, for the wandering steering.

Thanks, I'll try that.

There could be other components/TSB that also need to be applied. On the 2018s there are also updated trackbars etc as part of the wander solution.

Mine steering is rock solid now (after trackbar TSB, steering software TSB, v41 stabilizer TSB, Steering gear TSB and I installed mopar lift LCAs on my own)

I have a 2019 JLU, so I have no idea about trackbar TSB?

Interested to know the outcome.
I will inform you, I didn't have to pay anything for my replacement and I understand that paying for the replacement and not helping the steering would be a waist of money.

It's TSB # 02-003-19 and you can check with your dealer service manager.

Here's the actual TSB.

Same here, new box has at least 1-2” dead spot. I have new track bar as well and even confirmed with second visit software was flashed to new code. Has anyone tried adjusting the lash on the new steel box?

Have you checked the PSI in your tires? If they are overfilled it will cause the issues you describe.

Yes, this is something good to check. However In my case it wasn't a significant contributer to the dead spot issue.
