Build: JLU Sahara, granite, tow/JD electrical, LED, CWG, infotainment, LSD, Black hardtop, tan leather, slush mats, headliner.
MSRP: 49210
Sales tax rate: 6.25%
CarMax trade appraisal: 9500
Trade-in fully paid off.
Called all Jeep dealerships in the area. Told them about offer #2 and many declined to match.
Offer 1: 46008 (-1% invoice), trade 8950.
Comes from the dealer who I test drove with. More convenient dealership location. Seems to see me as a novice because I am 25. Gave me a pretty “official looking” price breakdown. Said he wants my trade in by Friday.
2: 44500 (~4% under invoice) Won’t value trade-in until closer to arrival.
Dealer ~25miles away. Gave me a build sheet w/ 44500, OTD 47,700 w/o trade written in pen w/signature. Haven’t dealt with them much but very friendly on the phone. Says they couldn’t take my car now as a trade because of the time between trade and actually receiving the vehicle.
Basically, I’m not sure whether I should push it on the first guy to try and match #2. It’s complicated because I don’t want to drive my trade-in the next 8 weeks and risk losing value. I think I’m going to be able to work something out with my dad’s business vehicles as a loaner, though.
So I need help with a couple things:
Besides losing tax savings from trade, what other costs are associated off the 9500 from CarMax if I sell this week? Do they take anything out of that figure when buying it?
Any advice on negotiating with #1? Should I send him an email with the other offer or bring it in person? Leave it be and just go with #2? What are the rules about trading in a vehicle 10(god-willing) weeks in advance of receiving my order? Any other advice is obviously welcome.
I am a bit of a novice at 25, but I don’t want them to know that and take advantage. This is my first time going through this process.
Thank you to you all! I’ve learned so much from all your posts already.
