Hi I just picked up a 2021 JLUR with the 2.0T I was really intrigued with the 4 banger after owning several V6 Jeeps. I don't have a lot of experience with 4 Cylinders, we did own several Mini Turbos but that's about the extent of it. I love the peppiness of the 2.0 in the jeep, makes my old 2017 JK feel like a slug in comparison...I know the 8sp has a lot to do with it though. I notice the engine is a bit, for lack of a better term, whiney ...It doesn't sound like turbo whine but maybe it is. It doesn't bother me at all in fact I kind of like it. I was just wondering if this is normal for the 2.0.

Thanks in advance

Mine is the same and I’ve wondered if it was normal too. It reminds me of an electric motor whine or a low power steering fluid whine. I don’t have Etorque or whatever it’s called.

That's exactly it, you described it much better than I! Im guessing its normal, was just looking for confirmation

I have the eTorque - mine sounds like a supercharger whine. Really don’t hear it inside but very noticeable with the windows down. Don’t worry - it’s the nature of the engine. Mine runs great. I’m amazed at the pep this engine has.

yup, supercharger wine is another good description. Now that I’m thinking about it I’ve had some transmissions go out in the past and it’s also a similar sound that they make. My guess is that it’s just the way that this particular transmission sounds?

I noticed the same whine when I got my 2.0T in Sept. Did some research...you might be referring to the electronic power steering...it makes a very high pitch whine. Put the windows down in park and turn the steering wheel back and forth, see if that's the sound you're hearing.

That’s not the sound....very much related to the turbo spooling...

How can you find out if you have the eTorque or not?

I believe the Sahara’s still get the option. You can look underneath the jeep. Towards the back, you’ll see the large box in the middle back area. It’ll be the 48V system for the eTorque stuff.

Mine sounds like a bunch of retarded miniature elves, banging tiny pots during a windstorm under the hood. Sounds great.....all normal. Love it. :like:

Is the whine at idle or just when accelerating?
