It sounds like some fine tune adjustment is necessary, because when installed & tuned properly there should be no noises, rattles, or anything like that. Give us a call and we will walk you through troubleshooting. Its most likely one of three adjustments.
indeed needed some adjustments, another member pointed out my my issue. Took it on the trail today and problem was eliminate. No complaints, wish you guys did have a install video though for the newbies like me.

Can anyone confirm whether the stock backup camera mount/housing can be reused with the Maximus-3 tire carrier? Or do you need to buy the Maximus-3 backup camera mount to be able to reinstall your backup camera once you install the tire carrier? Thanks!

I believe you would have to buy the backup camera mount. I dont see a way for the stock camera housing to attach to the tire carrier.

Thanks! Just wanted to confirm this before I ordered.

Edit: Just ordered the Tire Carrier + Hi LIft Jack Mount + Jack Shovel Mount. Jeep budget is maxed out for this month...

Anyone know the specs of the tailgate bolts (quantity 4) that bolts the tailgate to the hinges? I stripped one of mine and want to get a replacement.

The instructions just say it's a m10 stainless steel truss bolt (the bolts that came in my kit weren't stainless steel). I found this https://www.fmwfasteners.com/produc...gcsi0KSXf3v9rEpU4ubSVjeyoA4HFO_RoC00MQAvD_BwE bolt.

Did I find the right one?
Your bolts are stainless but coated with the Chrysler black finish. We do not use a single black oxide fastener in any of our 150 parts we make.
We can get you a replacement bolt, contact our [email protected]

We recommend getting our back-up camera bracket. The factory one does not work well with our JL Tire Carrier. It MAY be possible to modify the factory bracket, but its a big MAYBE. Not sure what that would entail.

trying to finish up installing and when i open the tail gate i can only open about 3/4 of the way because the factory tailgate stop (the metal piece that goes from the tailgate to inside of the brake light cavity) will not allow it to open any farther. am i supposed to remove this piece or have i done something incorrect?
My carrier is doing this as well and I’m trying to install on a Saturday. No one answering at M3. Any insight into what needed to be done to solve this?

This happened to me too. Check the alignment of your tailgate. After I installed my tire carrier the tailgate shifted more towards the driver's side (pro tip, compare the gap between the body of the jeep and the tailgate on the driver and passenger side to get an idea how off center you are). Pushing the tailgate slightly towards the passenger side resolved my issue.

To do this you will need to loosen the four m10 truss bolts that bolt the hinges to the tailgate and then adjust the tailgate. With the tailgate closed, loosen the four bolts and then apply pressure on the tailgate handle to push it towards the driver's side (you will probably have to detach the tie-rod if you've already connected it). Once you have it relatively center (it doesn't need to be perfect), tighten the four m10 bolts and see if that door stop gets stuck again.

If you remove your passenger tail light and open and close the door while watching the door catch, you'll see that it is most likely making contact with the frame of the vehicle which prevents the tailgate from closing.

If your tailgate is not off-center, check to make sure that the hinges are pushed all the way forward so that they are flush against the Jeep.

I hope these tips help.

Thanks. I reached out a couple of days ago and haven't heard back yet.

It’s the tailgate mechanism that stops the door from swinging out. It binds up. There are 2 bolts where the mechanism goes into the tub. Loosen the 2 bolts and let the catch move as far forward as it will go. It will move enough to free the strap from binding.

Thanks. I ended up removing the door stop mechanism, opened the tailgate fully, then reinstalled the stop with a bit of grease. Working well now. Very happy with the results. Time to order a tailgate table.

BTW, curious why the hinges and carrier are different colors. Anyone else have this? Wondering if I got a mix of different powder coated lots with my two boxes.

The color difference is odd. Mine are all the color of your carrier. And my hinge Pins are black.

UPDATE: Not only do they build quality products, Maximus-3 has top notch customer support. I was contacted privately via this excellent forum regarding my carrier. Apparently they changed over powder coat colors to better match the stock bumpers and the source I purchased from had two different lots as I suspected. Maximus-3 is sending me replacement parts which will match [plus "something for my troubles"] to make things right. Not ideal but as someone who understands that mistakes happen, I am good with their remedy. Thanks guys.

Installed my Maximus-3 JL Tire Carrier, and Hi-Lift Mount yesterday with my dad, and did some final tweaks this morning. Here is the before picture:

And the after picture:

I've still got stock wheels/tires as I wanted to install the TC before putting new wheels/tires and lift on in the Spring. Overall, I'm happy with the how everything turned out. There's just one that I need to address with Maximus-3 as I'm not sure if it's something that we did wrong in the install or is an issue with the part. If you look at the picture above, you'll notice that the backup camera and Mopar 3rd Brake Light mount are leaning to the right a few degrees. My dad and I went to adjust that this morning, as we thought that the four bolts holding the tire mount to the tire carrier needed adjustment, but after further investigation we found that the outer tire mount part's bar was level with the TC and the Jeep itself (leaning slightly to the right since there was no driver sitting in the Jeep), but the plate with the threads for the lugs was not matching up with everything else. See picture below:

I'm going to send Maximus-3 an email tomorrow to determine if this is user error or maybe a part slightly out of spec.

Other than the issue above, I'm extremely happy with everything. Everything is robust and I love the added modularity. I've got the shovel mounts on as well, but the shovel (Krazy Beaver) is a Christmas present from my girlfriend's mom (shoutout to Maria) so I won't have that until the end of next week. Some general observations from the install:
  1. I had the same issue as some of the other posts with the inner tailgate track bar that got caught when the tailgate was about 3/4 open. We found that one of the hinge mounts wasn't flush with the body. This solved this issue, but there was still one spot that the track bar rubs slightly. My dad's theory on this was that the hinge point on the M3 TC is slightly further from the body of the Jeep than stock, which would pull the track bar in that direction, causing it to potentially rub on the body panel (this could vary Jeep to Jeep)
  2. The stop bolt for the Hi-Lift Mount wasn't quite long enough to stop the Hi-Lift from hitting the taillight comfortably, so we got a slightly longer bolt to replace the provided bolt just to be safe (if you pulled, the flex would allow the Hi-Lift to hit the taillight)
  3. Net weight gained from the tire carrier, less Hi-Lift + Mount and parts removed = approx. 39.4lbs (I used a home scale and weighed myself with parts so probably not super precise, but gives an idea)
  4. After installing TC, the spare tire was about 1 inch higher off the ground at the top, the face of the tire was about 1.5 inches further from the tailgate, and there was about an additional 1.5 inches of space between the edge of the tire and the handle to open the tailgate
  5. The bottom of my rear fender dropped about 1/4" (measured at the axle) with everything installed, including the Hi-Lift
  6. In the rearview mirror, the Hi-Lift does not obstruct any rear visibility; however, you can see the Hi-Lift if you turn your head around and look. I will update when I can add the shovel
