Just finishing my install of the tire carrier -so far so good. Not perfectly satisfied with the tailgate alignment but I will play with that later on. I am waiting for the truss bolts from vendor since they didnt come in the box, so I used the original hardware for now, so when the proper bolts arrive I can fine tune the alignment. Any pro tips would be appreciated!

My main issue now is the install of the side mount rotopax bracket. Anyone do that yet? there are a pair of bump stop bolts that are threaded into the bracket to help hold it on the TC and cushion the side of the rotopax container. There are also two sets of holes to mount the rotopax mount on the bracket. When I use the outer pair of holes, so the container sits farther away from the bracket when loaded, the bump stop screws cant reach the side of the container, it is too far away. When i use the pair of holes closer to the Jeep, the container site too close and the bump stop screws stick out too far into the container.

Instructions very vague and not much help on this. . . .

What is your issue with Tailgate alignment? I had an issue too, not sure if our issues are the same, but my tailgate would drop when i opened my tailgate. I made a shim for the bottom tailgate mount at the tub and it fixed everything. I think they should include 1 or 2 shims with the kit.

You should not need shims.
Take the tail gate bolts lose from the hinges and adjust it. If it sags when the door is open then the gate is carrying weigh and not the tire carrier.
Once the Hong is lose you can adjust the gate independently of the tire carrier and it works beautifully

Thanks, I am trying to avoid the shims so I think i just need to fiddle with it. Good point about the tailgate sagging only if it is supporting weight rather than the TC - but isn't there some transfer of weight to the tailgate when fully closed, as the TC rests within and in snugged up against the concave shape of the nylon block?

Also, I assume this is normal, but there is a bit of wiggle/play between the tailgate and the TC when opened - that is, you can move the tailgate a bit and there is a rattle - but obviously not there when closed, a great fit that I cant wait to get on the trails with.

That rattle is definitely normal.
I disconnected the turnbuckle (and carefully) allowed the TC to swing away from the door to ensure that the door was separated and aligned without affect from the carrier. Then when combined they don't have issues. When is closed and snug to the block it may transfer some weight but it doesn't seem to be a issue then.

PM if you have questions and I can send pics of how I set mine up.

Mine needed shims, I talked to Maximus III multiple times during my install and tried all other adjustments first. The issue with my jeep, yours might be different, is I was experiencing flex in the tub with a 37" tire and there was not enough adjustment built into the the tialgate plate and the tension block to compensate.

Thats a good point, I was only mounting 35s.
I also used the tub bracket that goes in the taillight. That definitely stiffened things up.

There is a very slight amount of unpainted aluminum that shows. I'll try and get a Pic.

Thought I would share Maximus tire carrier add on. I made an umbrella rack for a quick shade set up on the trail. It's supper quick and easy to put up and take down which we use for lunch stops or breaks. I tack welded on an exhaust flange on the umbrella pole to keep it from hitting the ground, that way the tailgate can open and close with the umbrella installed.

Thinking about pulling the trigger on this tire carrier this week. For those of you who have purchased the tire carrier, can you offer any last thoughts/opinions on the install process and how the tire carrier has held up?

I am aware that the spare tire is offset a bit and it's really not an issue for me.

Not sure if you’ve already purchase it but I have had a few months of use on my tire carrier. The tire carrier is beautiful. The instructions were a little difficult to follow but I managed to figure it out. I have a 37” wheel and tire mounted to it. Not sure if others get the same but I get a slight wobble on the trails from big bumps or jolts. It kind of freaked me out but so far the tire doesn’t seem to fall off and everything still looks tight. I would definitely recommend the carrier, its seems to be one of the better on the market.

I run a 37 on mine, no wobbles on trails...maybe just need to adjust / dial it in. Also super happy with the carrier.

It sounds like some fine tune adjustment is necessary, because when installed & tuned properly there should be no noises, rattles, or anything like that. Give us a call and we will walk you through troubleshooting. Its most likely one of three adjustments.
