I was wondering if anyone has mounted a roof top tent on the Maximus 3 short rack for the unlimited? I want to verify before ordering. I am planning on getting the Smittybilt roof top tent.

as long as you are not getting the XL tent you are fine. I have the long version of the pioneer platform and have at least a foot if not more of extra length

Excellent! I'm looking at the Maxiumus 3 Short Roof Rack as well and was wondering the same thing. I need to find some pics of this setup.

How do you like the water tank on the ladder? I've considered it
I really like it mounted there. Super easy to take on and off with the rotopax mount. I also love the ladder. It’s nice to be able to grab onto it when you are taking the cover on and off the tent. I wish I could add a ladder on the other side but my awning is in the way.

You can mount the awning over the ladder with the arm mounts. I'm just worried about the tank being so wide

I haven’t had any issues with it mounted there personally. The only downfall is you have to take it off if you actually want to climb the ladder to get on top of the rack/tent. We added a small foam mattress inside our tent and now it’s a pain to close and get the cover on. I have started climbing on top of the tent and sitting on top of it while my husband strapped the tent down. So that’s the only issue I have come across with the rotopax being in the way. But it’s easy to take off, so I just remove it before I climb up the ladder.

For those of you with the RTT, how did you mount it to the Pioneer Platform? I've been doing some research and it looks more involved than attaching it to crossbars.

You are in luck I actually removed mine today and took a couple of pictures!

So I initially used the hardware that came with the smittybilt tent and it was a PITA. So my dad helped me make new mounting hardware. I bought some inch square tubing to start with to be what the tent attaches to. Shown in the photos below. To attach the tent to the square tubing we used rivnuts in the square tubing. So we drilled new holes in the tent and put a bolt through the tent to screw into the rivnuts in the tubing. We used rivnuts in the tubing so the bottom of the tubing would be flat on the bottom so it would lay flat on the rack and it wouldn’t scratch the top of my rack. To attach the tubing/tent to the rack my dad welded a piece of flat bar to a bolt (like a t bolt) that slides in the slots in the rack (I forgot to take a picture or what we made but I included an example t bolt for reference). But I attached pictures of how we drilled holes on the ends of the tubing to be able to run the bolt through to secure it to the rack. Hopefully that makes sense and helps haha. Let me know if you have any questions!

100% will fit. But I will 100% recommend the long platform!. I keep my shovel and a couple Offroad lights on the extra space. I have a full roam RTT on my setup
