Heya everyone. I can't find this simple piece of info anywhere. For the heated seats, do they only heat the bottom, or is it bottom and your back? I was at a dealer yesterday and none of the employees knew.

What's more frustrating than the dealer not knowing their own products, is that they 99.9% are too lazy to look it up or to learn. A quick Google search would of given the answer. The dealership I went to said the maximum towing was 1,000lbs for the JLU (wrong, it is 3,500lbs). The sales guy was even irritated I was asking questions besides what colors is it available in? Also, they'd rather sit around and gossip vs looking up information in between customers. When I sat down and placed my order, I had to ask them to be quiet so I could hear my sales guy. They didn't have any cubicles for any sort of sound dampening. They were shocked to learn that the user manual, owner manual, and other info is online. A simple "control F" in your browser allows you to search within the manuals. Again, pure laziness. Also, check out http://media.fcanorthamerica.com/newsrelease.do?id=18666&mid=52 and click on the right hand side column like specifications, etc.

Your link is for the First Edition Owners Manual. I don’t know how many changes were made, but here is the link for the Second Edition:

Good post but I still don't know the answer to the question.

It definitely heats up your buttocks and your back up until about a little below the upper back. It doesn't make it to the neck from what I remember.

I used to have heated seats on my 15 Cherokee (Cloth seats) but didn't get much on the back part when compared to the JL. Not sure if it's because of the leather on the JLU or because the cherokee simply didn't have upper back heating.

Is there such thing as a heated seat which only heats the seating area? At least in a modern vehicle with an option for heated seats.

It's pretty funny that the dealer didn't know.

My mistake. Mike and I have ignored each other but I can't remember why, so I don't see his posts.

I have the tow package with auxiliary switches on the lower dash. How hard would it be to add heat for the lower back for some of us creakier owners?

In the JK seat there are two "heating pads" - one for the butt, one for the lower back. They are stuck to the foam rubber of the seat.

After several years, the little wires in the butt pad often break (I guess I'm a fat load). Not difficult to replace on your own - you have to pull the seat cover up from the front to expose it.

You know its broken when you press the button to turn it on and after a few seconds it turns itself back off again. Apparently smart enough to know there's a problem. I think I recall that you can order the butt pad and the back pad separately -- I went through a couple of the butt ones and never replaced the back one.

Yes, but seems like not in the Jeep. My 2005 Suburban has seat heaters that you can either toggle on the back only or both the butt and the back. LOVE THEM and they have three settings. Warm, hot, and HOLY $%&% that's hot.

18 JLUR, cloth (heated) seats, can testify the heaters are on the butt and on the back. Monday, Tues, Wed this past week nights were in the 30s used the heated seats and steering wheel.
I do not know about the leather seats, I’d guess if the cloth ones are seat and back the leather ones are as well.

Yes,lower back.

Worse even is my JLUS was overfilled with oil, 6 quarts as in the JK's (same engine) supposed to be 5 quarts in the JL's!! Wouldn't you think service would know that?? Even the service manager didn't know that! Called 3 other dealers, their service didn't know either, told me 6 quarts for the JL!!! Arrrggg!

Go Jeep!!!
