The electrical connection to the glazing failed. Rather than attempting a repair, they said they would order a new window.

Ok I went to another dealer today (I bought my 2012 JKU from them). Their service guys seem more knowledgeable. I went over thr issue with him, detailing all Ive learned from you guys on this thread. He also understood my issue with the other service department and why i didn't want to drop it off and let them work blind. Anyway, he went over in detail what they will do. After hooking it up to the computer they will see the whole system, he advised that there is a possibility that the option was never activated from the factory. THAT WOULD BE NICE!! (A simple touch of a button would fix that). Then if need be, they will check the switch itself to see if its hooked in properly and or is getting power/ hot. As well as check the rear window connection. He agrees with me that because the light on the switch doesn't even come on that the window has no power to it. I also asked about why a dealer would advise that the rear window would need replacement, he said that is that element on the glass is scratch or damaged in any way the rear the electrical connection is broke and that the fix is a new rear window. (I forget who had that on this thread). My appointment is on Wed. bright & early, so fingers crossed for good info. Ill update soon.....

I posted in the thread earlier about the same problem. Been busy at work and it was 85 degrees out yesterday so haven't had a chance to get to the dealership nor thought much more about the issue, but need to get it in just so it is on record.Trying not to wait 8 months until its cold in Texas again and forget that the rear defroster doesn't work.
Hi gentryTX,
Please feel free to send us a PM if you need any assistance while getting this addresses by your dealer. We would be more than happy to offer out assistance.

UPDATE! I just returned from the dealer. On Wed. They hooked the jeep to the laptop, where they have control and can see everything. They were able to activate the rear window defroster manually. The light would come on and it functioned. So the switch is good. They determined that the HVAC module, which sends the signal to the switch was shorted and ordered it. It came in the following morning (Thursday). I got in there this morning, in about 15 minutes, the module was replaced and the deroster/heated mirrors worked. There was no need to tear the dash out. The HVAC module is under the steering wheel. Thanks guys for keeping this thread going. I hope my experience can help others with the same problem. The proof is in the pics.

I got mine back yesterday working as well...although it took me leaving mine there 10 days and thereā€™s no telling what all was poked and prodded trying to figure this out. DRL still inoperable; still no answer. But Iā€™m down to that one issue so Iā€™m making ground I suppose.

I appreciate you guys posting the issue with the rear defroster because it helped me find why mine was not working. I have the same issue. Looks like the soldering connection to the glass did not stick.

I picked up my jeep yesterday where they replaced the rear glass. The wire that attaches to the glass doesn't get replaced. I'm assuming the soldered connection is actually a button on the glass that snaps on to the end of the connector on the wire. Assuming this is correct, they don't want to repair the soldered connection rather they are replacing the glass. My salesman told me this has been reported by many other hardtops as well, just not at their dealership. Hopefully they have this issue fixed on the replacement glass.

How long did it take them to get the glass?

It took about 2 weeks (a little more), though it's possible the glass is more available now. My glass came in the day after another guy on the forum who's rear window broke, got his replacement. I know he waited like 3 or 4 weeks. With both glass replacements coming in within a day of each other might mean they have begun stocking up on this. Especially if this is a common failure.

Did you ever get your DRL issue fixed? My JLRU is having a similar issue. Headlights don't come on with wipers and DRL do not work. At the dealership now.
