Thanks Man @James
Truly inspirational!

I am at the budget/planning stage for my 2018 JLU.

Your list is impressive... i am still a rookie... but i would like to ask you...

what would be you absolute essentials from the list?

Thanks again

Daniel
Hi Daniel

thank you
Great question
The first thing I would do is ask yourself what are you planning on doing?
Over nighters or long stays in one spot
How much are you really going to do this?
From there make a budget for what you can afford to buy.
All of the stuff on this build was done after I spent years doing it other ways.
I started with a cheap ground tent and ended up with the Ikamper.
I went from a cooler with ice, dry ice to a fridge.
Tell me what your planning on doing and I’ll try to give you my opinion

OP...Awesome

How's the on-road manners?
Hi
Sorry for the late reply
No problems on the road, drives great
I just finished my 2020 diesel build, just got back from an 1800 mile trip where 600 miles were off road.
I’ll do a write up on that build. The diesel is a monster off road!

Hi
Thanks!
I tied into the cigarette lighter outlet on driver-side rear.
When I get some time I’ll post my new build. I got the 2020 diesel, just got back from a 1800 mile trip, 600 miles were off road.
Yeah that's where I pulled power for the switched lights in my rear bumper.. I am going to have to steal that Idea. I did put a forward facing Camera in mine using the Tazer JL Mini. But I mounted it on the bar on the front bumper. If I used their Gladiator mount, all I would see is my bumper. I am not a hardcore Wheeler just building a comfortable capable off road vehicle for my retirement hobby of photography.

Thanks James!

Well for now would be some light weekend trips, but eventually the idea si to travel to EUROPE from Saudi Arabia.

Luckly so far the budget is not an issue, but as a noob i am trying to understand what should go first.

Most guys around me in the off-roading community are suggesting lift and tires as a top priority? what do you think?

Also here in Riyadh is mostly desert and sand dunes so the requirements are different compared to europe.

The struggle now is to find a good roof rack that can hols a tent but doesnt require drilling.
Cant get Gobi here for now...

Thanks a lot for your help!

Did you have a problem with the Ikamper annex not touching the ground due to your Jeep being lifted? I would like to buy the annex but I’m going to get a 2.5 JKS lift with 37s on my JLUR and afraid it may be too tall.

Hi

when I had 35” tires with the mopar 2” lift I did not have a problem
i have a new 2020 diesel with 37” with a 3.5” lift and it does not work
Im selling my annex for $600, I used it one time with the old Jeep, I found out it did not work on a trip with heavy rain.

OP, great setup.

Q: How do you mount your iKamper to the Gobi?

I am thinking of getting a Rhino Pioneer instead so I can remove the Platform with the iKamper on it as I cannot enter my Garage with my RTT on it.

If I get the Gobi, I will have to remove the RTT and install every now and then.

I think since the JLUR is my daily, it is easier on MPG and wind noise if I remove the Pioneer Platform + iKamper on it for daily and then install together for camping.

Instead of killing my MPG with the Gobi on and the iKamper off.

good morning

I purchased the ikamper upgraded mounting brackets, it makes it really easy to install and remove.
I use a screw gun with a socket extension. I too remove mine.
I purchased the 2020 diesel, the MPG compared to the V6 is night and day. I’m averaging on trips with the diesel 26 mpg vs 16 mpg with my V6

Very nice, did you have to upgrade your suspension for the weight?

Hi
yes!!
One of the most important things to have done is having your vehicle weighed at a truck scale, front, rear and entire vehicle.
with this number you can have a shock tuning company re-valve the shocks for the weight of your vehicle. Night and day difference between the two.
