I was tightening bolts under my 3.0 tonight after quite a few more miles off pavement and saw these crystals on the DEF injector. Nothing seems loose so it’s either a bad seal or a cracked housing if I had to guess. I do wonder if this is more common and a potential source of accelerated DEF use noted all over this sub-forum. It’s certainly not a fast leak that’s ending up on the ground, but I’m expecting the dealer to give me the same old “gonna be a while” line for replacement parts. Something tells me the freeze/thaw cycles of AK’s shoulder season are not going to slow this down. The Canadians can’t finish their tunes fast enough.

Alright folks I need some help verifying my hunch about this before I take a file to my DEF injector port. When I unscrewed the injector collar I noticed a spot of metal on the exhaust-side port which is otherwise smoothly machined. Looks an awful lot like welding spatter which is dotted all along the various exhaust junctions. It also visually seems to prevent normal seating of the injector flange to the port flange. Can one of you unscrew the collar on your injector to confirm this is bad QC before I file the thing off? Thanks in advance.

Ok now I’m 100% convinced that’s weld spatter on mine causing the leak. Thanks for taking a look! I’ll get to filing this off tomorrow.

One tap with a flathead and a hammer, that piece popped off easy leaving the smooth surface that should have come from the factory. Will be interesting to see if my DEF usage noticeably changes. It wasn’t as bad as some reported on here but it wasn’t at the expected range adjusted for my average fuel economy lifted on 37s either. I highly recommend anyone using ridiculous amounts of DEF to inspect that system end to end.
