Tried a flex test today in the newly lifted Rubicon. Note: I did remove some rear inner fender plastic prior to clear the 37” BFG MTs.

Had to snap a poser pic while airing down to 12psig:

Looks good.
Any thoughts on going with aftermarket fender liners (e.g., Artec) to get more flex?

Not in the near future. I’m working on a ABS moldable plastic insert for the rear.

I’ll post my complete writeup once I have all the cosmetics finished up. I bought ABS Plastic to fill my fender trimming. However, here’s a rough picture of its current state with upper lip heat molded back and lower plastic trimmed/removed to accommodate rear tire travel.

Here’s my writeup on rear inner fender trimming to accommodate 37” tires with full travel to bump stops. I have NO rubbing in the rear after this modification.

_____
I believe the forum is calling this upper plastic heating “Eddie’s Modification”. Smooth out upper plastic with heat.

I removed the lower section for trimming. A good pair of Fisker Scissors did the job, but I think a dermal work also work.

You can either Plastic Bond or Rivet. I decided the rivet with #10 backing washers, and heat gun worked better after playing with both methods. The Plastic Bond looks much nicer, but I try to follow the 15’ away cosmetic rule. If it looks good 15’ away, I’m happy!

I removed the lower section of plastic to drill the two upper holes and used my HI-LIFT to give myself some additional working clearance.

NOTE: I rattle canned all my pop rivet heads semi gloss black after installation. You can purcase black pop rivets.

This project was a bit of fussing with plastic and took a methodical and patient approach. I might CAD up downloadable/printable templates and instructions for DIY at a later date. That is assuming people are interested in cheap modifications versus buying expensive aftermarket parts.

Yes we are interested, thank you!

"Eddies Mod" did not work for my 38" tires, they still rub. It looks like you cut into the bottom of the plastic inner. My tire rubs on the upper middle of the inner fender. I will eventually pull them off.

Yeah, on 38” mile stars you’re going to need to bumpstop or pull the Inner fender liners. My 37s just (I mean JUST) clear the upper inner fenders.

Any rubbing on the front? I’ve been wanting to do this mod on my rear inners but not at the point where I want to cut the plastic/ metal.

No rubbing on the front. I did remove the steel bumper wings, tested at full articulation (to the bump stop) and cycled my steering lock-to-lock. I think 13.50”W tires will require A minimal amount more offset, but the 12.50”W tires work great on the MOPAR wheels.

That TJ looked pristine
I’m kinda kicking myself for letting it go, but didn’t want to commit to stretching it and 39” BFG MT mods. I think I’ll find an older CJ7, LS swap, and coil with 39”s.
