I purchased a top lift pro for my 2020 Jeep with the dual top option. Happy with the device itself but unfortunately it stained my hard top. The two stability braces have black rubber end caps on them and they’ve permanently stained the fiberglass hard top leaving two black rings. It won’t come off & it’s leached into the fiberglass. Guess I’ll have to paint it or put headliners in. If you use this product, strongly recommend placing a thin shim of wood or plastic between the rubber and your hard top!

As soon as I saw the black plastic on the tips of those supports, I looked for a way to cover them up. So, I got one-inch white rubber furniture tips from Home Depot. I can't remember if I put double-sided mounting tape inside them...I think I did.

I wouldn't have suspected they'd react with the surface like that, though! I was just trying to avoid black rubbing marks.

That’s smart Jeepney, wish I’d thought that far ahead! Never expected it to be a problem though, figured TopLift would’ve worked something this basic out already. :swear:

@Tiger1 i really think that you should reach out to the manufacturer and have a very, very, very candid discussion with them about their product and your damages. This appears to be an inexcusable product design flaw. It seems that they tried to save $0.03 and cost you money. Not Cool.

Another fun fact. If you buy a used one you have to cut the bars on top. The JK top center section is narrower than JL  Need a minimum of 8” opening.

@Tiger1 : your stains look worse than some I had. That said though, in addition to acetone I used "Clorox Cleaner in bottle" with some success.

try some acetone, or very light sanding + acetone
Thanks Thinman. I tried a couple of different cleaning solvents and sanding yesterday and unfortunately the staining is deep into the fiberglass. Back to painting or covering it up with a headliner I guess. Not the end of the world but pretty disappointed with Toplift for using a cheap part that blemishes the interior of my new Jeep & now requires me to remedy. I emailed Toplift Pro & will let everyone know their response when received.

Was this from letting it sit on the Toplift for a long time? Or did it start happening right away?

Thanks!

I swapped out the hardtop for the soft top in May - so basically 4 months. I noticed it about a month ago but assumed it'd wipe off...bad assumption. The lift is mechanically sound but if you have one, I definitely recommend placing a cap or shim over the rubber stopper from day one.

Try a Magic Eraser. I can't believe what they will clean on my boat.

So I did finally have a conversation with the manufacturer. They were cordial but not much help. They said they were looking at the issue & experimenting with how to remove the staining as I'm not the only person who this has happened to. They also said they were improving their product to replace or cover the rubber components for future sales. Didn't offer to replace the faulty part (which would've been appreciated) or provide a cover like Jeepney did. They did say they'd follow-up with me if they found a remedy after they 'experimented with bleach'.
Anyway, they're aware of the problem so good news for future purchasers - but for existing users: cover the black rubber parts!

Thanks @Tiger1. Really appreciate the heads up on this. I have a brand new TopLift still sitting in the box waiting to me assembled. I'll definitely be addressing those rubber bumpers before the first use.

We didn't use the black rubber stoppers. We mounted ours like this and it works fine
