Hey all

I will fix my new rims 17/9 with -12 offset in 4 days and I'm still confused

For a jlu sport with stock suspensions and Without any gear ratios adjustment,
Im between 4 choices

1. 285 70r17 bfg ko2 (the wise choice)
2. 285 75r17 toyo at3 (big but thin)
3. 305 70r17 toyo at3 (the biggest -0.5 inches in width and height)
4. 315 70r17 bfg ko2 (the biggest)

Can you please advice and include photos if any

Please note that the I rarely take my ride off road as it's mainly driven in city. And mpg is not a factor to be considered as I live in a country with cheap fuel prices

Thank u all in advance

If you have the Automatic Transmission you'll be ok w/ all of them regarding gearing, but will have some clearance issues on anything but your 285/70/17 pick. You might consider a 295/70/17, here's a pic of my setup w/ those tires, first pic is stock and the next w/ those tires on stock suspension. I have since added Rubicon suspension to get more room at the fenders, which is shown in third pic. If you can add a Rubicon suspension swap you could run any of the tires on your list if your Rubicon suspension comes from a model w/ all the heavy options :)

Simple , very pretty and will get you safely to your next destination through just about any type of road. Doesn't matter whether you are heading to your next client meeting or scouting the terrain in Idaho you will get there unless you run out of gas of course.

Thanks @Kluk Ztopolovky
Having a limited budget I have to pick pretty affordable parts for my JL, I do wish I would have checked the D44 rear differential option though, that way if I were to upgrade my axles for more severe duty I would only have to get the front :(

I suspect even with the existing axle you can climb up few rocky hills

If you go to the 315’s you should be fine. You’ll just need to remove the plastic between the front bumper and tires so it doesn’t rub. Be advised if you do off-road you will have major rubbing with no lift.

I won't be taking it off road (99%) of my driving is on road.. Alot of my fellow jeepers in my country are trying to convince me to go for the 315 70 17 with -12 offset but I still have fears that it might rub

I have till next Saturday to decide and it's really confusing as I read that fitting those 315 70 17 will effect the performance massively and I need to regear

And the others are just fine with it with no rub at all and saying that the AT8 transmission handles it well

You will not rub with a -12 offset. I have a -18 and don’t come close to rubbing. I also have the AT8 and have not regeared. I still average 17.5-19mpg and hit 8th gear as long as it’s not on an incline.

Thanks for your input and would really appreciate it if u do have photos if ur setup? As -18 would be almost the same as -12.

Thanks alot in advance

First pic is how much tire pokes out. Second pick you can see plenty of room to turn the wheels either way. Last pic is how much room is left in wheel well. I have a 2.5” front 2” rear spacer lift.

I see your side shot - about how far out are your tires from the fender?

I ran the comparison on tiresize.com of what I believe the stock rim is - 7.5” with +44mm offset and tiresize.com says it will extend 3.6”. looking at your side pic it doesn't look like 3 1/2"??

Wanting to buy new rims and tires for my stock Sports S no lift (for now). Considering 315s or 35s with a 9" rim w/ 4.5 back spacing and -12mm offset

I have new Rubicon high line fenders and rear bumper end caps to install which will give me more room in the wheel wells, plus they are 1" wider.

I also have the steel Rubicon steel front bumper - so no air dam to worry about.

Would I be correct in saying either of these will work with no rubbing issues. I'm not a serious off roader - I live in Florida so not may mountains here!

With stock suspension and fenders i say 285/70r17. To me even that was a little stuffed. I like it better now that i have a rubicon takeoff suspension. Also with the manual and stock gears i wouldn’t want to go any bigger.
