Tailgate Key Lock Missing

My 2020 has a lock as well. Late 2019 build. Knowing this is now rare, I will sell my tailgate for $20k.

Disagree! The lock has been around since the YJ. Those of us who don’t have it are the rarity. $20k and a tailgate without a lock can be yours!

without the lock is current/future production. The rare discontinued tailgate lock in the last years of jeeps built with the tailgate lock will be the rare 20k models. Lol

My 2020 sport s with a build date of 10/19 had the lock, sadly she met her demise 2 months after purchase do to a reckless driver. My new 2020 sport s, also a 2 door with a build date of 07/20 does not have a lock. I don’t not have remote start or proximity locks. WTH?

Personally, I would just as well not have a key lock on the rear hatch..

I have had a bunch of JK's over the years, and a JL for 2.5 years now, and I don't remember a single time I used a key to manually open the/a rear hatch.

There is a key lock on my JL's tailgate... I just bought custom ABS plastic covers to hide the shiney chrome, to keep water and crap out of the key hole.... I would have welcomed no key locks... all I'd want is one on the driver's door and no more..

A singular lock tumbler at the driver's door is fine for some but I'd imagine that for Sport owners or the occasional dead battery, having key access to the cargo area, or at least an interior tailgate release handle hack like this one https://www.jlwranglerforums.com/forum/threads/tailgate-release-handle.7650/ might be handy.

It locks and unlocks in sync with the 2 doors via key fob.

Have you... a JL owner with no keylock on the rear hatch, looked in UConnect settings to see if you can set up the tail gate to say unlock only with 2 fob button pushes or something similar to that.
Take a looksee, I'd be interested... 8-)

Right, I was thinking the same thing (I too have a base Sport)...so they’re going to keep making the version with the lock for the base Sports only? I guess they figured out that removing it from the other trim levels saves enough money even if they have to make a few with it for the base Sports.
