I'm getting ready to put some take off axles in my sport. I don't have to worry about this sensor right?
Nope not at all. You will need to buy the two wire harness and run it from your locker to one of the AUX switches. You won't need to deal with any of the BS that the Rubis do.

Oh yeah those things are worth their weight in gold man!!!
My buddy, who helped diagnose what was going on with the locker issue, just bought another JL Rubi. He took it out to CO and UT and was going to open the diff and silicon that sucker up good before he left. He ran out of time and said "I'm sure it will be OK for a couple thousand miles." Wrong answer, started to fail after 1500 miles... SMH.

Worth their weight in gold...or $179 for the Z locker fix.
Issues like this make me sad, but it's nice there is an aftermarket solution.

JK and JL axles are totally different beasts and you can't use this solenoid between them. It's not that it is a bad axle, it's a bad solenoid that allows gear oil to leak into the solenoid and short it out. FCA, in their infinite wisdom, replaces the entire axle instead of the solenoid, thereby creating an axle back log. IMO FCA has gone waaaaaaaaaaaay into Stupidville on this problem.
The simple fix is the Z Automitive wire harness for $175. There is a line on some people trying to buy the solenoid. Yeah it sucks, it si what it is until FCA pulls their head out of their arse on it.
My guess is you'll be waiting a long time to buy a JL if you are waiting for the bugs to be ironed out.

if the sensor has failed, is this the solution to get it working again? Just making sure I understand it.
No, this is a fix. You would pitch the sensor in the trash and use this harness. It tells teh computer all is well with the world.

Retired from Corrections....I have stories.
It might not be a bad idea to combine that with the internal potting. I know that @wibornz tried the edge-seal method and still ended up getting oil in his new sensor, though, so I think potting will be more effective.

I suspect the main entry point is through the connector rather than the plastic seam. It's likely that the third, unused pin on the 3-pin connector is letting oil into the connector and then into the housing, hence my liberal application of dielectric grease.
I got about 2000 miles out of the new sensor out of a new axle. It failed on the way from Moab to the Rubicon Trail.

I have hours and hours of being on the phone with FCA and Chrysler customer care reps. I think my next step is to take them to small claims court.

On a side note. The Z-Automotive OEM Locker harness works great.

So if your vehicle is out of warranty, this sensor fails you have to buy a whole new rear axle If I want to function like stock new?
Would more frequent oil changes in the rear help keep the metal out. The aftermarket will have to make that sensor replacement like the fender clip.
