Are the hood vents on the JLU/JL Rubicon functional or only decorative? Would you guys with the Rubi take a look see and report back. A forum goer posted a video today saying the hood and side vents were in fact functional but I'm not 100% sure they are

Would be nice if it was because it would help knock out some of the hood jumping up and down at speeds over 60 mph..

The ones on the side definitely are and I can assure you there is no more hood flutter. That is no longer an issue!

I figured the ones on the side were functional but I have my doubts about the Rubi hood vents. Was in hopes that someone here would look behind the hood sound deadner/insulation and tell us yes or no if they see functional vent openings.. I'm pretty sure it is a no.

Glad to hear the hood flutter is history...

If they were actually functional, then all rain/splash/carwash water would drain right down on the mid-engine and that would be a problem--so

I don't think they have open vents-

Whatever

The designer in a video said all the vents are functional for a little cooling/heat dissipating but there is something in there that keeps all the water from dumping down in the engine. Not sure I could find it now. I think it was at the LA Auto Show.

WOW, I'd like to see that, to provide heat dissipation and still be able to reroute all water downfall !

Whatever

The top of the vents are open, but there is a drip pan under the vents, but what really negatively effects them is the soundeading material under the hood. If you are seriously having over heating issues some easy trimming will open them wide up. Also for those saying that open vents will kill the engine keep in mind the JL is designed to do 30" of water and there is no splash guard under the motor so water will get everywhere regardless

Well, I guess we'll have to talk to the first RUBY owners that experience HEAVY RAINS--

Maybe there's no problem--or ??

There’s a thread here somewhere where someone poured water in them. Supposedly drained towards the back.

If I remember right, it was the guy that does the ask a dealer thread. It was done at a dealer, and had pictures.

In this video, Jeep designer, Mark Allen specifically states "vented" in regard to the hood and side vents. He further states "I am not going to put a fake vent on a Wrangler":

There’s more somewhere. I remember the pictures . I remember wondering if they actually drained to the back by design, , or just the fact of raising the hood did it.
You are right, I read the same thing a little while back
