I've started the process of shopping for a 2021 Diesel. The dealer highly recommended on this forum (Earnhardt) immediately went to 5% under invoice without any nudges. Interestingly, the North Scottsdale dealer (closer to my home) has taken the position that Diesels are a rare commodity that need to be priced accordingly. Is there any truth to production limitations on Diesels? I can't imagine why, except for parts availability in the short-term.

The this-model-is-in-short-supply argument reminds me of Z-cars and RX7s in the 1970s. [only they really were in short supply]

There has been plenty of speculation as to why the production numbers were so limited pre-covid. There was a definite delay with some EGR coolers and likely other components as well. Whether they are able to meet demand after reopening remains to be seen, but given how hard of a time a few forum members here have had getting parts for repairs, don’t be surprised if factory 3.0 output stays lower than demand for a while.

I wonder how much it has to do with knowing it’s available and dealers (at least in my area) not stocking some on their lots. I get sideways looks every time I pull up to the pump, or if someone sees my badge on the back.

Dealers couldn’t “stock” them. They were special order only. I’m not sure if that’s still the case now but that was the deal recently.

Not sure that is true in all cases. Mine was indeed a cancelled order but attempted to deal on two others here in Colorado that were dealer ordered for stock. They wouldn't play. The cancelled order one I got for 10+% under sticker.

I lived in Evergreen for years and bought several new Jeeps from Medved. They were easy to do business with - at least then. Are they still around?

I just placed my order with Leon, [email protected], at Criswell Jeep this week. 6% under invoice. Also spoke to Steve, [email protected], at Mid-Missouri Powerhouse. The deals were nearly identical and both guys were great to work with. Travel/family considerations swung the decision to Leon.

The dealership that we bought ours from (Downtown Los Angeles ) was the third one they had sold all year long. In these parts there were very, very few of them, the Sting Gray we purchased was one of two within 150 miles of our home. We paid msrp, and yes, the sticker was actually marked up by a decent amount. The other dealer with a Sting Gray was asking $10k over which was absolutely absurd in my mind.

Take care,

Wow. That would push me to get on a plane, visit a more reasonable dealer, and take a road trip home with my new JL. Heck we're at 5% below invoice in both Phoenix and Las Vegas. They aren't far at all from L.A.

You were able to order a 2021 diesel? Thats good news if you did. A few of us have been waiting for the the diesel orders to open up.

I think for me, if the difference is only 2% then i would rather order here in Phoenix, instead of ordering across the country and having to drive the new JL all the way back to Gilbert.

You've probably already heard my story but...I had SPECIFICS if I was going to spend $65k on a rig and keep it for a number of years...Orange, Diesel, Rubicon, Black leather...and hopefully everything else would fall in place.

We used the Jeep search portal and used the 150 mile radius feature to search the entire United States. We found 3 pretty close to my criteria and ONE nearly EXACT (didn't have the headliner option) in Little Rock Arkansas...

It was a special order, the guy's name is on the build sheet. For some reason the deal fell through and I called to inquire at the right time. The sticker was like $65 and a little bit, I offered $59 and it was sold to me.

Being retired, we made a 2 week road trip back home to Southern Utah. AWESOME rig and performs up to all my expectations...every system works flawless. Had nearly 4k miles on it when I got home...

I added the Mopar beadlock wheels and sent them out for powder coat. I get more compliments on the Jeep than I do on my Harley CVO...LOL

This was my thought too. I offered 3% under invoice, cash, no trade. Take it or leave it. Dealer accepted the offer. My time is to valuable to drive across the country for another 3%. If I was retired I might have gone for more and turn it into a vacation. But you have to remember the flight to go get it probably costs you 1-2%.
