Is the rail included with the platform? Reading product description makes it seem the rail is a separate option.
Rail Kits, Ladders, Lights, and other accessories are all sold separately.

Ive been looking at roof racks also. I see the EAG one but it looks like it attaches to the freedom panels. That seems sketchy and we remove them sometimes off roading.

I have had the yakima style tracks with rails before on a pickup and I thought the quality was good. We might run a basket or a small roof box.

Are there any kits to get the tracks, feet and bars from the second picture? Thule or yakima?

The Yakima site lists everything needed for Jeep hardtop installation. I grabbed a few of the pieces I needed on Ebay

My Proline gutter mounts and roof bars finally arrived. Pretty good quality for $80.

I’m now looking at reasonably priced roof baskets.

Just so I'm thinking correctly: if you cut your tracks to 36", then conceivably, the cross bars are roughly 32" apart, center to center. this particular setup could be used with a RTT such as this one
RTT in question
that only requires a minimum of 30" between bars?

is it just me or does it seem a bit extreme to have roughly 22" overhanging in both front and back?

if one were to get the exposed racks, still, there wouldn't be any difference in overhang(s), just the difference of an additional crossbar to distribute the weight more evenly (assuming that all 3 would be on the back of the top and NOT on the freedom panels, of course)

The exposed racks for RTT are not simply 3 bars. they also have distribution feet that distributes the weight across the entire top.

this, I understand, but several things are blaring in my mind:
1) with a 3 piece hard top with freedom panels and the advisement/warnings to not attach roof racks to the freedom panels, that leaves only about 3 feet of space to position the crossbars (rear portion of the hard top)
2) even though used as an example, the RTT linked states MINIMUM distance between bars is 30 inches
3) simply adding an additional bar for greater weight distribution also decreases the distance between bars from <approximately> 32 inches to about 16"ish" inches: well below the listed minimum (I haven't yet looked at any additional brands or models of RTT, so I'm not sure how this all would affect those from other manufacturers)

My daughter was insistent on a 2-door and still wants to get a RTT: a task that, as many are finding is NOT an easy one.

You can attach the exposed racks on the freedom panels, it is fine. lots of people doing it and they even say to do so. I have a 2 door wrangler and it is an awesome vehicle.

You adding a bar between your main two bars is not gonna hurt anything, just help. the RTT manufacturers assume youll be using 2 bars only.

You should just contact the manufacturer of whatever rack you are buying and ask them for recommendations on what RTT to get, what they tested their system with. Exposed racks RTT capabilities is big for them, they market it all over and theyve tested their rack system, so ask them what would work.

Where are the installation instructions? I'm trying to figure out where the rack is attached. Will I need to drill new holes in the Jeep to install? Can the hard top be removed while the rack is in place? Is the rack compatible with a soft or bikini top?

The Maximus does requiring drilling in the top. It is removable with the top by disconnecting from the roll bar brackets. I believe you can also put the rack back on without the top.
