With all due respect, the people who's JKs don't leak aren't going online to start threads how their hardtop is great.

Like the two I had so far...

They would be fools to change the name from wrangler.

However...

....a Unibody fixed roof "wrangler lite" with removable, stowable roof panels, small fuel efficient engines, less robust axles, but essentially the same "take doors off, rinse floor with hose, and jump sand dunes" ability ....

... calling that model Chief would be ok.

Why would there be a PC uproar over "Chief", when there isn't one over the "Cherokee?" Wouldn't there be an even worse one for the dumb name "Trail Hawk?" That's a really lame take on "Tomohawk."

Btw, neither the hard top nor the soft top on my 08 JK leaks, at all. They never have.

The problem with my '07 JK was a seal where the two panels meet at the middle of the windshield. The seal would flatten out when you put the panels back on and water would pour through like a faucet. The forums came up with hacks to fix then with stiff rubber tubing crammed in there until Jeep came out with replacement seals and a TSB to fix it. They replaced all the seals under warranty and later years got a little better. A huge amount of problems came from improper removal and installation of the panels. Some people cranked down the screws by the sound bar way too tight destroying the panels. Most of us just left them off later, they didn't leak without them.

More likely a red herring than anything else.

Even on the truck side Chief doesn't work the way Scrambler, Pioneer, Commanche, Commando and especially Gladiator do; the Chief was a Cherokee first and then a Wrangler Special edition, using it as a complete replacement for the Wrangler name makes no sense. The only thing worse would be using the name of the ill-conceived and equally ill-fated Cowboy.

Despite the very nice Special Edition Chief , even now when I think of the name I just see the Cherokee Chiefs of my youth, and I don't think that name is strong enough to carry the brand the way the Wrangler did, even in the Cherokee it was just a trim name.

The picture you found brings back so many memories! This WAS the Jeep that I grew up in! LOVED the pumpkin orange color! I grew up on a farm, so my dad would tell me to drive it up and down the dirt roads to practice. Then I took my driver's test in it (passed the first time!) My last memory of it was bringing home the tree to prep for Christmas. This is where my love for Jeep began. Now that I'm married, my wife and I have had 6 more Jeep's between us! She's already talking about trading in her 2012 Grand Cherokee for a 2018/19 Wrangler 2-door (#7!) :)

If you ever want a chuckle - look up the former great comic Patrice O'Neal's story about a guy with a Christmas tree on the roof.

My buddy had a 2 door Cherokee Chief in HS.

Like this:

You know, I see an XJ Chief too:

Maybe Jeep is looking at calling the 2 door versions of the Wrangler a 'Wrangler Chief' or the other way around? Or a 2 door long wheelbase version?

I'm thinking the truck frame with a full top. 3rd Row seating. etc.

I would be all over that, although I may be in the minority.

I don't think they're squeezing 3 rows into this cab. Actually I don't know any pickups with 3 row seating.

You mis-understand what he’s saying, the truck FRAME, but with a 3-Row Wrangler Body ontop.
It’s no longer a truck, but an XtraLWB 3-Row Wrangler.

Do you think that truck chassis would have a long enough wheelbase, to support a 6-door Wrangler Unbounded?

6 door, no, but my LX 450 has 3rd row seating and it's smaller than a JKU. The JTU should have plenty of room and even have some "trunk" space too.

WORD THE F#@K UP !!!!
Making third row seating or fold down 2nd row seat for a sleeper cab with memory foam mattress on a JTU would be spectacular.

LOL, I’d almost like to see FCA do it just to watch the JKU haters lose their minds... almost. :giggle:
