Anybody else notice the rear gate is a misery to open. I’m going to end up tearing off the handle.

To whom it may concern the solution was to grease portion of the lock mechanism that is below the catch
Can I say .... daaaaah!

By the way, an excellent product to keep handy is Inox. This product is exceptional and for your hinges, the hoot.
  • Terrific for control cables (example motorcycle, aircraft, etc.)
  • Natural product ..comes only from Australia and actually is gleaned, from would you believe, sheep.
  • Pricey, but you aren't going to beat it!
  • No odor
  • Never drys up
  • Never gums up
  • After application, not visible
  • Never latches onto/ attracts dust dirt
  • Resists water
  • Anti-corrosive
  • Harmless to your vehicles paint job
  • Non-toxic/food based so will not harm crittters such as dogs, etc.
  • Does not wash off with water
  • Displaces water
  • Is a penetrate

Anyway. for me and many I know it is a must have in the shop and on the road. Google Inox..
No, I do not own stock in the company that brings us Inox.

I don't even want to about the extraction process...... :cwl:
Inox is a lanolin derived product.

Lanolin (from Latin lāna 'wool', and oleum 'oil'), also called wool wax or wool grease, is a wax secreted by the sebaceous glands of wool-bearing animals. Lanolin used by humans comes from domestic sheep breeds that are raised specifically for their wool.

Baaaaaah...............

My rear gate always worked perfect until now. Now it sticks when you try to open it.

That rubber part in the tailgate latch assembly seems to be the culprit - that and the metal fins on the recieving side. The latch mechanism and recieving loop are not as much of a factor. You have to keep applying it because thr fins get wiped clean when you are loading stuff and using your trunk a-lot.

Thanks! What did you end up putting on it? White grease?

Yes, just whiye lituim grease. I have also heard that gun grease works well for hinges etc ... If it keeps firearms working I would imagine it can take lots of wear.

Mine just started sticking and I am pretty sure i know why. Take a look at the foam pads stuck on the top corners of your tailgate where it contacts the weatherstripping...mine have started to peel off to where the adhesive is exposed and thus sticking to the weatherstripping until you give it a good tug.

Cheers

Glad I found this thread. My gate started sticking a couple weeks ago and I thought it was just the latch sticking. I didn’t even contemplate some exposed adhesive causing it to stick. Came across this thread this morning and went out to check. Sure enough it there was some sticky residue. Cleaned it up and it seems good to go now. Thanks JL people!!
