Some oils have an SN+ rating very few meet MS-13340. Just like there is Pennzoil Platinum and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum and there is a difference. Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is always at or near no.1 in all oil test not so with Pennzoil Platinum. For 30-60k vehicles i cant fathom not using the exact spec or the top rated?
MO-339 filters can be bought for under $10 at Wal-Mart. No to hard to acquire.

This is why FCA put out the addendum. Any SN PLUS meets their requirements.

Sorry, but the addendum still clearly states SN Plus with MS-13340 as the preference, and SN Plus being ok if MS-13340 not available.

I wouldn’t stress over it. As mentioned Pennzoil Ultra Platinum is indisputably at the tip top of the motor oil heap and higher quality than the regular platinum. A great resource is the “Bob is the oil guy” forum. As long as it meets the API rating, that’s the most important.

Does anybody actually know what MS 13340 spec actually means??

My guess is its a bunch of crap just like the MS 6395 spec.

If you want oils that meet stringent specs, look into euro oils.

The most stringent USA spec is Dexos1 Gen2. All SN+ is, is lower calcium for LSPI. SN has better fuel economy requirements that SM.

The full synthetic Mobil that I get does have the additive package and certifications that are specifically recommended in the owners manual. Possible that they were referencing their regular fossil oil?
Make sure it meets MS-13340 which is what you need for the 2.0 turbo. The 3.6 does not require MS-13340

I bought a 2019 JLR 2.0 turbo in January 2020 from a dealer in CA. The vehicle was manufactured in January of 2019 so it was sitting on the lot for almost a year. Should I do an oil change now (after 3,000 miles) or wait until (?)? And, is there anything else that I need to watch out for since it was sitting so long?

Because the 2.0 is a Direct Injection engine, oils have to meet stringent standards for blow by, volatility, so as not to carbon up the intakes. I will only use the oil that meets MS-13340.

Do the oil change, it's been a year already. Manufacturer recommends not going over one year between changes as far as calendar time goes.

Penzoil Platinum as it has all the additives the 2.0L needs and the right Dexos Gen-2 specification.

For the oil filter Royal Purple is the best at both filtering capacity and flow rates. They are expensive compared to the mass produced stamped crap but well worth it. I've cut many filters open and the RP's are consistently well built.

Also check out Femco valves as it makes home oil changes a snap.
Which valve do you use on yours?

I'll be doing an oil change this weekend on my 2.0T. Dealer has done the previous 3. I'll be using the Pennzoil Platinum as it meets MS-13340.

Instead of the stock size filter, I am using a longer one to slightly increase oil capacity and filter area. I am a fan of Mobil-1 filters so this is what I will be using. The stock size Mobil 1 is M1-113A and the longer filter (by 1.25") is M1-212A. Without installing it, I held the longer filter in the spot and it does not appear to hang lower than the oil pan and wouldn't cause any interference with a skid plate.

I am guessing that you have to add a little more oil than the regular 5 quarts?

Yes, I will have to. Haven't done the oil/filter change yet. Maybe tomorrow or Wednesday. I'll post some pics and how much total oil it takes (my guess is it will take another ÂĽ quart).

My 16 yr old son and I completed the oil change (our first on the JL, the others were done at the dealer) with the oversized filter. It was also an educational moment in that my son did it himself while I talked him through it.

By using an oversized filter, in this case a Mobil 1 M1-212A, I added 4 ounces of oil to the total amount (5qts + 4oz). This brought the oil level to the top notch on the dipstick. Not a big difference, but I was looking for more filter surface area and the additional amount of oil is helpful.

The oil filter does not hang down below the engine block (first picture), even though it's 1.25" longer. The lower edge of the longer filter is right at the top edge of the oil pan. So this won't have any effect on a skid plate.

Since the stock and longer filter are the same cost, I will be sticking the with longer one as there is no downside to using it.
