Does anyone know if Rowher is open? May try for a run tomorrow.

Drinkwater Flat is another cool spot to go for a quick off road fix. It is west of Rower. Access is from the trail head on San Francisquito Rd. You will also be in the same area were the St Francis Dam was. It failed in 1926, flooding Santa Clarita and killing something like 700 people. It will be the spot I test out my new 4X4 when I get it. https://www.google.com/maps/place/D...7532dd1b5426a!8m2!3d34.5369357!4d-118.5014731

Are you close by the area/have you seen the gate open as of recently? I’ve been wanting to hit this one but am afraid of making the hour drive to arrive at a closed gate. Doesn’t seem to be an active forest service page for it like rowher does and I went up once pre-covid but didn’t have time to fully explore. Been dying to check it out in full.

I am pretty close, but have not been by there in about six months. I could try to drive by there tonight after I get off work to see if the gate is open.

I just drove up to the staging area for Drinkwater Flats. The gate across San Francisquito leading to Drinkwater is, as of 10pm tonight, open. Have fun!

Ah, amazing! Thanks for doing the drive by. Gonna try and get up there this weekend. I’ve only been about a half mile in before and loved that it goes from 0 to 100 immediately past the gate with that insanely steep initial climb.

I’ll report back with photos if I can make it up that way, but here’s one from that half mile initial exploration a couple months ago.

Hey thanks Marc. I'll probably head out there or to cleghorn tomorrow, haven't decided. Short notice but if someone else wants to go, you can help decide.

Great day on the trails.

(hoping I attached the one pic I am about to ask about...)
Is that Castaic Lake in the background? Doesn't look right shape to be Bouquet...
I lived in Castaic for five years, but didn't have a Jeep then, and didn't know of these trails either. Dang - yours, and some posters' after yours, are really some great looking trails, and great looking countryside.

Pretty sure that is Bouquet Reservoir looking toward the west. It is quite full in the photo, as the little islands are almost totally covered.

Could be - it's been almost twenty years since I've seen Bouquet, and almost that long since seeing Castaic from up above opposite the freeway side...so I am by no means an expert! Just didn't recall Bouquet having that sort of horseshoe shape.
Thanks.
