I love the concept and looks of the Roam steps but hearing about premature rust and poor customer service turned me away. I was tempted to reconsider but not anymore. A year is way too soon to have rust. I read some people spraying on a different paint or coating. You should not have to strip and respray or recoat at your expense. Hopefully Roam does something for you about the rust.

They just told me to take care of it myself. Not impressed. I could see this about 3 to 5 years down the road, not the next year after install.

What’s the next best option for 2-door frame-mounted slider steps? Not a big step but a non-slip just enough to fit little 6-year-old feet.

I actually was lucky. I read about the premature rust. I thought the rust issue was maybe a one off quality control issue so I was going to order them anyway. Lucky for me Roam never replied back to my inquiries.

It's a shame companies don't stand behind their own products. Their response sounds like a BS move on their part. Roam claims their coatings exceeds all OE Specifications for rust and corrosion. They state that right on their own website. Here is a direct quote:

"Rust-resistant E-Coat Finish: E-Coated for rust resistance and then powdercoated with a 2 stage poly powdercoat for durability. Exceeds all OE specifications for resistance to the elements. Made with pride in the U. S. of A."

There was someone who had a step on their 2-door Rubicon that looked like it mounted with the rock rails in place. I asked them where they got them and how they mounted. Have not herd back yet.

I read that same propaganda too. It is very sad.

The link to Summit Racing said they were for the JK and only work with the Lund rock rails? Let us know how you like them.

I’ve been looking at the LOD two door sliders but haven’t seen many applications of the slider. They’re running a pretty good deal on north ridge, but they are toward the expensive end of the spectrum. Posted a link to them below.

@viper88, sorry I must have missed your question about the steps. I got them on Amazon Canada. They were $79.99 CDN + tax when I bought them, but have since gone up to $90.79 CDN. Here's a link to the same steps on Amazon US. Looks like the US price is $73.99 US.

As for mounting the steps, I just drilled four holes per side into the bottom of the stock Rubi Rock Rails, then inserted a stainless Rivnut into each hole and bolted the steps up.

@Rico1111, post your thoughts about the steps once you get them installed.

@viper88, yes the steps are meant to be mounted to the Lund Rock Rails using the four supplied mounting plates, but I was able to drill some holes in the bottom of the stock Rubicon Rock Rails, then I inserted some M8 Rivnuts and used the supplied bolts, washers and lock washers to mount them.

I've only had the steps on for a few days, but so far I like them a lot and so does my girlfriend who's 5' 2".

Here's a pic of where I positioned my steps. The holes I drilled lined up almost perfectly below the two seam lines on the lower body.

This is my favorite red 2 door. Is this lifted? Looks slightly higher than stock.
Thanks for the kind words. That is stock Rubi suspension. I am running 1.75" wheel spacers on the stock rims.
