Starting to look into extended warranty for peace and mind given the new diesel can run into problems. From what I’m gathering the Mopar extended warranty doesn’t even cover some Main emission components so it defeats the purpose of getting the warranty however I’m reading Geico MBI will be much cheaper and covers everything.

Thoughts ?

What would it cost and over what term?

The Mopar warranty doesn't cover emissions equipment intentionally because they're covered by the mandatory 8yr/80k emissions warranty.

No they are not. Look up what constitutes a major emissions control component per the EPA and you will see that none of the major failure points of these systems are covered.

yeah from what I’m reading none of the failure points are covered which is the issue.

I could be wrong, that was just my hunch from working in the industry. So what are the components that Mopar isn't covering?

geico mbi is coming out to about 11 bucks a month for my account. And it covers up to 100k miles or 7 years.
$122/year is pretty good for an extra 64,000 miles of coverage. I’m assuming that price is a result of having multiple assets covered under Geico policies?

All of the ones that matter...

Actually, even one vehicle will qualify. The only rub is that you need to enroll when the car is newish (under 15mo + under 15K miles). In my case a 2020 JLUR would cost $40.29/6 months. I'm seriously considering it on my next Jeep, and I NEVER buy extended warranties.

NOTE: You can go the GEICO's website and what-if in about 5-10 minutes.

Sorry I meant what in the warranty isn't included that isn't in the typical emissions warranty that you're worried about.
Mopar extended warranty doesn’t cover DPF, EGR and I think the SCR system IIRC.

So $81/year and you have to pay for it during most of the 36,000 mile manufacturer warranty?

Anyone asked specifically about the DPF considering they exclude “filters”? Likely to be the most frequent failure item over the long haul and not cheap to replace or clean out. That said, most are likely to require replacement over 100,000 miles so maybe a moot point.
