So some know I decided to take a chance and try this heavy duty tire carrier. There aren’t any reviews on it and a couldn’t find anyone who had it, but for $289 which is half the price if not more of the others I figured I’d give it a go.
I don’t do any rock crawling, but probably some trails and I’m only running 35’s so I figured I wouldn’t need something seriously beefy. And this is the first time I’ve ever installed one of these so I have nothing to base it on.
The install is straight forward and the instructions are mostly pretty good. A little vague as far as the shims were concerned but all and all pretty simple.
The only issues I had were because I have the Diabolical Slipstream I couldn’t remove the rear plastic without taking the top off and then taking apart the slipstream. I was able to get enough room to access the hinge bolts......even tho I did end up putting a small crack in the plastic.
The other issue I had was that when I removed the oem hinges the tailgate isn’t painted under them and the new carrier doesn’t cover that area. It wasn’t my first choice but the only thing I had was some satin black bumper paint I used in the areas. I didn’t want to leave it bare metal.
I’m went for a drive afterward (had to give RubySue a bath) and it is CONSIDERABLY quieter in the rear tailgate area. A lot less squeaking and rattling. Overall pretty happy with the product and how it turned out.
