Hey yall, so my husband downloaded the gaia maps onto his phone and tablet and wow does that put a new perspective of navigation! If anyone is looking for a good map, look for gaia maps app, and it is worth the purchase! National geographic, state park, national park, BLM maps ect!

Sorry just had to share :)

Have a great night yall!

Just downloaded. Looks like it could be helpful. I typically use AllTrails, good app to find places to trail.

I suggest downloaded the content while having wifi, because it is a lot of information. If you have signal where you are going, there is also a precipitation map that will show how the weather is along the trail (comes in handy for those 20+ miles trails)

Premium membership gives a wealth of maps and with that level of membership, you can save those layers for offline, off grid use.

I’m a big fan of maps, usually printed ones though, but I’ll definitely check it out.
I use Gaia. It's literally the best thing in the world. However I also ALWAYS take paper maps with me too just in case my one and only (electronic) navigation aid fails.

All trails is a nice resource, however you will drive past literally hundreds of miles of trails you will see on Gaia to get to one listed on alltrails.

Gaia paid membership is definitely worthwhile because of all the layers you can add in, most importantly in my neck of the woods is the USFS MVUM.

Avenza is another great program that is free and uses PDFs that you import. It’s very good as well but not the same level as Gaia.

For those of you running a tablet in your rig specifically for GAIA.

What tablet are you running?
What mount are you running?

I am just using a Samsung Galaxy S5E. I am pretty sure most tablets can run it, you just need to make sure you have enough memory to d/l the map data and has the built in GPS so it continues to work offline. I use a Ram mount to hold the tablet, and 67 Designs for the mount and arms.

Now everyone has me intrigued, but I'm not a big subscription fan. Wish apps like this, had a one time upgrade fee.
How much are the subscriptions fees for Preminum Member Level? I wish apps would list them.

Ah, a fellow old fart, huh? When I was a kid, the saying was "don't trust anyone over 30". Now it's more like "don't trust anything electronic".:CWL:

Looks like $40 a year or $160 for 5 years. I don't remember paying one $160 for the premium membership. I thought it was more like 125ish late last year.
