I was at a dinner one time and got seated next to a billionaire (lawyer, asbestos class action suit money) and his smoking hot wife. (Ms. Mississippi one year) Anyway, i commented on how pretty her ring was and he told me "It should be for $800,000". And I just sat there all night trying to grasp that when i was having trouble paying for my health insurance!
His comment confirmed his douche bagginess, zero tact. There is another half out there and that is their reality. I'm 47 and I could take that $800k and make a good stab at semi-retiring now and living debt free for the rest of my life and there it sits on a woman's finger. Whatever, I hear what you are saying though.

I'm off to a bad (expensive) start... I've had my JL for 2 months and I'm over 10k just in wheels/tires and audio equipment.

I understand this. I was in a casino in Vegas playing Blackjack. I was betting between $20 to $100 per hand. The guy next to me was betting between $10,000 to 100,000 per hand. I sat there thinking that he will bet my entire lifetime of earnings if he keeps this up.

I would have jumped him in the parking lot and boogied over to Utah and hit up Teraflex and Dixie 4 Wheel :)

I thought about that, but I try and make good decisions. I spent almost 30 years working in prison and have no desire to be on the other side of the bars. I had another opportunity for fast cash one time. I was in a mall in Detroit and four young men were walking next to me and one of them pulled out a stack of $100 bills about 5 to 6 inches thick, fanned out and waving the money around being loud and talking shit.. These young men were all under 140 pounds. I could have easily taken it from them and I was armed with a glock 23. I just backed away from them as I knew they were not getting out of there with that money. I dropped back and went up a floor and watched from the grandstands. It was about 4 minutes later and someone out of the crowd ran by snatched the money..or at least what he could get his hands on before the rest of it was knocked out of young players hand and on to the floor where others started snatching it up and running. So cops were running kids are running... Pandemonium everywhere. I just enjoyed knowing that those young men were going to have to go bad to the drug man and try and explain their way out of their stupidity.

I have seen stupidity and try to learn from it.

My wife would shoot me if I spent 23k on a ring for her. She'd tell me 3k on the ring and 20k on Jeep parts... lol.
Oh my fiance isn't a materialistic person at all. She is very frugal. What I decided to purchase was my choosing. I didn't want to face my own short comings knowing how much I dump into my toys. I don't want to sell her short being that it is her first time either. Honestly, I wanted her to have something nice, to use that as a symbol that cherish her more than the dumb things I blow disposable income on. The Tom foolery I pull off constantly, makes this ring the least I can do. The plus side of it is, I knew she was a keeper when over the past few years of being together shes has always been a encouraging of what I do. She will always turn a wrench in the garage with me, or hang out have a beer while I have it in pieces. Never questions when the UPS/FedEx shows up.

And yes, we all know diamonds are complete rip offs. I probably could have flown to Africa, purchased a blood diamond, came home, had it cut for way less than half. Oh well! I guess my axles will wait til next year, I will be patient for now.

Cool. She sounds like a keeper. Hopefully wedding cake doesn't change that... LOL. JK :)

Probably Too much. My piece of advice would be to wait at least a year before doing any major Mods. These jeeps are so unreliable now that I'm thinking of trading it in I may remove all my mods as they won't give you what you put in at dealer.
