Interesting. Thanks for the info. I'd bet that anyone doing this upgrade has any issues at all with hvac, no dealer would do any warranty work. Another issue in my opinion with this upgrade.
I havent seen many issues with this upgrade and if something were to go horrible wrong it would take 5 minutes to uninstall the radio, hvac stack, and flash it back to stock settings and the dealer would never know. The radio is only 4 screws and the hvac is just some compression clips.

That is very true. Still a slight hassle doing all that even if it takes such little time.

Thanks again !

Hi Jesse,
Thanks for reaching out! We do not recommend modifying your infotainment center as this can affect the behavior of the rest of your vehicle. I do apologize for any inconvenience.

@JeepCares Thats your typical answer! and its been proven by others that you can upgrade the radio. You may not get all the features to work and that's okay. But having a larger screen, NAV is nice. - it does work. @JeepCares and FCA don't care.

Some of us are willing to pay the $$$ to upgrade. Its been widely reported that if the dealer adds the sales code to your VIN for the 7 or 8.4' unit then we would be at least able to get software/firmware updates.

So I have been following this thread for couple of months. About a month ago I upgraded my 2018 JL Sport S from 5" to 8" Head Unit that I purchased from an Ebay Seller (in florida). It has been programmed accordingly to my VIN. I love the upgrade 8" Head unit due to the fact that it is larger but also came with the built in Navigation. Seeing that infotainment is selling the auto climate control that would work with the 8" head unit, I decided to get one to match my head unit. Well...to my disappointment the auto climate control doesn't really work. I either have extreme heat or really cold. Nothing in between. Reading the past few threads, I am thinking that I might need interior sensor that my Sport Unlimited never came with. Anyone upgraded with the infotainment 8" head unit and climate control and actually has a functioning auto climate control?

How were you able to get a programmed to your VIN?

Reading all the threads about the upgrade and getting very confused. I have the very base 5'' and getting 8.4'' tomorrow. Do I need 1 or 2 antennas to make it fully functional? three different antennas available: 68294006AA, 5064813AA and 68293962AA. Which is the correct one?

Or this response I got one time from a dealer "if you wanted the larger screen then you should have ordered it"... No shit. Thanks for your help asshole:facepalm:. Any how, I think you can get all the updates from infotainment's website once you Update.

Infotainment told me I’d have to have the dealer add the sales code. I told them the dealer will not do that for me. They then said well we can mail you a USB with the updates?? Not sure I like that idea

Yeah, i hate that. I bought a JL on the lot that had every option i wanted except the larger screen. I would have paid for it up front if i could.

What blows my mind is they haven't realized the aftermarket potential. How many people would jump on it if they sold a package for $1000 that basically gave you the "technology group" package?

I did try an 8.4 I purchased off eBay but had issues with a green screen on backup camera. No telling how many Jeeps it was installed on prior to mine.

I just purchased a NEW 8.4 from a Mopar wholesaler for $1200 arriving on Friday. Lets see how this goes. Others who have installed new 8.4s in there Sport /S have reported it works fine. Only challenge is to get updates but I talked with my dealer and they will (fort a $$) update the 8.4 but will not be responsible if something goes wrong with the update.

I upgraded radio from 5 “ to 7 “ . Plug and play easy

Upgraded the climate controls. Not plug and play. Used the tazer JL to program “dual zone”. My sport s doesn’t have dual zone so everything works you just don’t have actual dual zone. Need extra parts for that but not going to do it.

Video attached

Not the best video sorry but it works!!!

Next upgrading cluster. Already found one. Will get it in a couple of days
This is definitely months down the road since this thread but I wanted to ask if anything else was needed for the AC to work? I have the 7” and climate control cluster installed but Climate does not work. Do I just need to order the Tazer or other sensors as well? Thanks!

You'll need to flash the BCM for Automatic HVAC in order for the control stack and climate to function. From there, if you want to use the "Auto" feature and make sure it functions properly, you'll need to install the In-Cabin Temperature Sensor and the HVAC Sun Sensor. Information on how to install both of those is on this thread.

OK too much info here I need to dumb it down to my level. If I go to jeep dealer a 7 inch radio is under $600 dollars. I assume it should come with 4 digit code from dealer correct? Swap unit in I will lose power and volume control, just use rockers on wheel. Add a 7 inch bezel, that's it? or do I need a taser to program Jeep it self. I got the last Nacho Wrangler in Phoenix area it had the base radio, Really missing android auto. And old eyes could stand bigger screen. Thanks in advance for any help...

You got everything right. New radio does not need a code and you dont need a tazer. Its plug and play.

Well thanks everyone, I kept reading finally bought a good used 7 inch display off eBay with code for $450. Installed today and working great. One word of warning if your selling your 7 or maybe 5 inch deleted your cell phone info before you pull radio. Mine came with a life history of cell info... Anyway used the p/n from earlier post to order the center stack with dual air controls along with a volume knob. It will be in later this week. Last question, I will need a tazer jl to program stack correct. A tazer lite will not work? Need a tazer of some type to correct tire size and disable start stop before I go bonkers....
