Prospects for a Jeep Wrangler Diesel model were dimmed when the EPA sued FCA, accusing the company of using defeat devices to pass emissions examinations. But, FCA has just resumed production of the Ram 1500 diesel, providing a glimmer of hope for Wrangler Diesel hopefuls.
Although the EPA has yet to approve certification for sales of these new Ram 1500 diesels rolling off the line, FCA did say in late May that it “has developed updated emissions software calibrations that it believes address the concerns of EPA and CARB, and has now formally filed for diesel vehicle emissions certification with the regulators for its 2017 model. That FCA has resumed production of the Ram 1500 diesel is hopefully a sign it has confidence that certification will be granted shortly. If that occurs, the prospects for a JL/JLU/JT Wrangler Diesel will surely be looking up!
