I'm a little confused by this.
Isn't the upgraded 3.6L going in the JL which is due out late this year? Is the S1 2019 you mention just in regards to the JT?
If so is that when the JT is going into production?
@Milous I read somewhere that the JL is getting 2 diesel engines being the 3.0L VM6 and a 2.2L diesel but that the 2.2 may be for the Euro region. Would you happen to know?
Great news if true. I wonder where they are getting that they are continuing with plans for the diesel though. I haven't seen any public statements but maybe they reached out to them for comment (?) let's hope.
This^ Just be prepared for pay a hefty markup for being one of the first.
Speaking of, no offense but how can you be so sure you want one when next to nothing is known about it. Do you have a budget? What if it's 40k or more?
2019ish? Apparently that is not early enough for many who want to see it the first year of JL. The problem is they have built up so much pent up demand from all the teasing (intentional or not) over the years and offering it outside of the U.S. that many do not want to wait a few more years.
I think powertrain engineering have made many auto makers lazy. Yea vehicles in general have all grown in size due to people demanding more utility/space, safety regulations, and people getting bigger overall (?) but we now have an industry full of bloated vehicles. Even go fast cars like...
It's never about "need" tho is it? If they offer it as a choice there will be many who choose it and it has definite advantages on trails. The question is what your intended use is and it varies a lot among owners.
If you are hitting trails, the diesel has massive low end torque advantage...
That's just my own speculation. CES car reveals are very tech focused which the Wrangler has never been. It seems like a very unlikely venue for a JL reveal but who knows. Maybe as DinkMan said the hybrid tech or they want to show off the new power roof options? I'd still be very surprised.

Well that confirms it won't be at Detroit and no way they reveal it at a consumer electronics show. NY or later it is then. Trying to be patient...
Me too. And if it's not a swing away door then they better not mount the spare on the rear. Gotta say though the spare looks awkward mounted on the side like that pic above.
Yep, comparing it against what we've seen on the prototypes that's definitely true. There's already been stuff on the prototypes that clearly don't match this proposal model. But based on the info that's been posted here and elsewhere about the new roof, I think something like the roof on this...
Nice analysis! I really hope you're right that the entire black portions of the roof can be removed (the grab handles would then make functional sense) but if they are then why bother cutting out those 3 middle pieces?
Interesting you mentioned a more slanted back window. There's a few sketches on the board that show a much more raked C pillar. The second one down (the one white) is a little less drastic and I'm thinking might be what we can expect to find on the JL production version.I zoomed in to get a...
I really don't like the strong Renegade influence in this model but luckily we've seen the spy pics and the "leaked" preview. *I think* it looks like they decided against that grill shape/design.
Wow that's the most telling indication that this is really something that shouldn't have been sent :) Definitely sounds more like it could be the JL hood.
Good spot, didn't even notice that the first time I saw this pic. So the angled bar that the wires are tied to is the C pillar and the white body structure to the left of it is the removable hard top? And the lift back window is part of the removable hard top?
