2.0L Turbo JL/JLU Wrangler Will Have 368 HP! (Now Updated to “Not Rated”)

Update (October 10, 2017):  In FCA’s latest filing to the NHTSA, the power output figure for the JL Wrangler’s 2.0L Turbo I4 is now listed as “Not Rated.”  Whether this means the 368 HP figure is incorrect is not yet known, but we will keep an eye on further FCA submissions to the NHTSA.

We’ve just found the “2018 Model Year FCA US MPV/Truck VIN Decoder” document that FCA submitted directly to the NHTSA showing initial release info for the 2018 Jeep Wrangler (among other vehicles) – also via The Truth About Cars.

The whopper here is the new Hurricane 2.0L Turbo I4 engine which FCA has listed at 368 horsepower! Yes, let that sink in for a bit.

As we’ve reported, and this document now supports, the updated Pentastar 3.6L V6 will be the base engine and we now know horsepower will remain unchanged at 285 horsepower.

The document also shows the new Wrangler will be launched initially only with the 4-door JLU offering, although our JL production timeline indicates the 2-door will arrive shortly after (around Feb 2018).

Have a firsthand look at the 2018 JL/JLU 2.0L and 3.6L power specifications listed in this FCA document.
